And Soon! I’ll Be All Grown Up.

in Life

I went through my wardrobe looking for clothes this morning. I then went through the pile of clean washing in front of the drier. Then, I went through the chest of drawers. I didn’t find anything I wanted to wear. Everything in my cupbboards is at least 2-3 years old. Most of it was bought while I was in highschool/working. It’s all very out of date, but even worse, it is very teenage. I don’t want to look like a teenager anymore.

At the moment, my entire wardrobe consists of various stretch tshirts, bootleg jeans and 2 pair of black pants.

I have these amazing boots and I want to wear them more often. Black, knee high, lace up boots. Very nice, but I don’t have anything to wear them with. So after Xmas I am going to go clothes shopping for me! Not for Nathan, not for Amy, (okay maybe a little) but for me!

I want to look good, without a great deal of work. I want to steer away from what all the teeny-boppers are wearing, because I am not that person. It doesn’t help that the only shops that stock clothes to fit me are marketed towards teeny-boppers. Is it really that hard for Target to make pants with longer legs? Really? I don’t want to be squeezing into skin tight stuff anymore.

This is where I come asking you questions (yeah, you were waiting for it, right?), cause you are my internets and you love me.

What is your favourite item of clothing and why?

Also? I had my blood test today. Lovely and painless, everyone should get a nurse as gentle as mine was. Results on Friday.

I swear by Lucky Brand jeans for extra long length jeans – I completely agree with you about the trousers for midgets thing. That is particularly true for maternity stuff – I ended up looking like a pregnant sailor with trousers that stopped short of the ankle. I think that look alone is stopping me from having baby #2!!

I’m still wearing the same crappy stained t-shirts and jeans that I owned 10 years ago. I can’t be bothered clothes shopping. I’m short and overweight, so it’s hard to find stuff that fits AND looks nice, EVERYTHING is way out of my price range (forget shoestring budget, mine is the frayed cotton thread variety)and I don’t care about how I look anyway. I have the Coles uniform for work.

I love those big cheese cloth tops for Summer, okay, and for Winter too.
Hides the jelly belly well.
Those and a good pair of jeans or 3/4 pants.
I like to sloth around the house in shorts though.

I fall into the Gap. All the time. It’s the only place that makes long jeans that don’t annoy me.

I am in hate with clothes right now until I get back to a decent shape.

And yes, round is a shape. Just not a decent shape.

Feeling anxious for Friday now.

V-I think that wearing just the boots might help with the *master baby plan*. :)

In general, I find that it makes sense to spend more money on the staples in your wardrobe: slacks, skirts, jeans and go cheap on the accessories or trendy stuff.

When you try something on, if you don’t love it…don’t buy it. And if you really love it, buy two. And most importantly, get someone to babysit Amy so you can focus on you.

Oh, and spandex is our friend!

My favorite clothes come from Old Navy. Comfy, up to date and mostly not too young.
BTW, you have an award waiting!

Hey!

I know how you feel…I havent had money to buy clothes since I moved out of home 2 years ago. and when I do I can only get one thing.

Most of my nicest clothes have fallen to bits and I’ve had to throw them out. These are the clothes you are looking for! Try EVERYTHING on, you need a whole day or more just to get the staples. But once you have them…you will wear them until at least next year or until they break.

I had a pair of jeans from jeans west once that I wore for 3 years. No matter what I wore they looked great! BUT I don’t think they will suit you because they seem to be made for rounder bigger women (I have an easy time finding pants but a hard time finding flattering tops)

Things I think would suit thin ladies such as yourself:

Grey dress pants, because black makes you look tall and thin, white makes you look rounder and gets dirty easily, but grey is stylish and you could wear your boots underneath them.
AND valleygirl have them for $15.00. try them!

Also 3/4 pants in the same style for summer with a nice pair of dress shoes.

I also like dressy shirts…you know the ones that you can get away with wearing anywhere, to work, out or with a pair of jeans to look casual. I got a nice one from supre, but it was expensive. I want to get a few different coloured ones. One day.

and my absolute favourites…boots (which have now broken and am currently searching for a new pair) and dress shoes. These are those flat, comfortable shoes which look sort of like thongs but with straps. so comfy. mine were like thongs but had a few extra straps at the front. i wore them with skirts, pants, at the beach, to work, because they were comfy.

Jackets that button up only in the middle…they make any size lady look curvy and sit nicely on dress pants/jeans/skirts.

Knee lengh skirts, imagination have them for $5 in different colours with patterms on them, wear with dress shoes, heels or boots, even thongs in summer. look feminine but not slutty and not preppy.

Long trench style jacket
in winter you can wear it everywhere, warm, almost like your dressing gown, and they look fabulous. Can wear with skirt and boots, jeans and boots, pants and heels, etc.

ohhhhh….I really need clothes as well.

(*sniff, sniff*)

How much can I relate to this!! I hate most of my clothes, but I do love my black high heel boots, this brand new dress I got from Target that camoflauges all my flaws, and my leather jacket. Sadly, none of these things can be worn together.

Classic clothes. And then SHOES. Lots of shoes. Who gives a shit what is on the body, just focus on the fabulous shoes?

Seriously, I tend to steer towards separates in coordinating colours and (honestly) accessorize with shoes. On my running around days it is a cute top (no buttons please. I hate anything with buttons on me!) and jeans, 3/4 for hot days.

Helpful?

I am totally there with ya! I hate all my clothes, but I want to look younger. When I worked in the professional world, I was so stogy! Now I want to look like that hip mom who has it all together…it’s a stretch, but with enough money, I could buy out the Gap or Old Navy!

My favorite article of clothing? My jeans. Definitely. I took them out of the dirty laundry pile twice this week…
