Dear Internet, how much do you love me?

in Blogging, Headfuck

Subtitled: Swallowing my pride.

The last week has been like a giant snowball of things going wrong. Tonight, the kids bathed my iPhone and while it’s sitting in a container of rice, I’m not hopeful that it will work again. Considering it was given to me by a friend in the first place, I’m not sure what I’m going to do.

I ran my finances a week ago and had to hastily look away. If I wasn’t an organiser of the Aus Blog Con, I would have pulled out of going a month ago, for financial reasons. Everything appears to have conspired against me, leaving us with bills to pay and things to replace and not much left.

Of course, as one of the organisers I can’t pull out and while I can just manage to make it to Sydney, it’s only because I’ll be maxing out my credit card and eating rice for a month when I get home.

Ideally, I’d love sponsorship by a company, who sell optus phones (because my mobile number is on my business cards and I really don’t think I can hold up to another mobile number change) and then I can stop wondering if the Universe is conspiring against me.

But I also know that this is really late notice, and it’s very likely that no company will see this.

So, dear Internets, if you would like to send me $5, I will be grateful forever. All donaters will score themselves a sidebar link under ‘People I will love forever’.

There. Done. Pride swallowed.

Now I’m going to go and mope over my dead phone, my dead garden and stolen ducklings.

kebeni March 8, 2011 at 9:52 pm

because you deserve a break and this took you immense courage 🙂

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:10 pm

You’ve got no idea. I hate asking, I really do.

Daniel E March 8, 2011 at 10:04 pm

Would love to help but need details.

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:11 pm

There is a paypal widget on the sidebar, is it showing up okay for you? I couldn’t see it before, I had to clear my cache.

Daniel E March 8, 2011 at 11:10 pm

Not showing up on my phone, I’ll have to use the laptop (ugh! Lol)

Fairycakemother March 14, 2011 at 4:24 am

I still can’t see it!

Veronica March 14, 2011 at 8:15 am

I took it down because of complaints yesterday. If you still want to donate, there is a copy of it on Frogpondsrock’s blog still (http://frogpondsrock.com ).

And thankyou. xx

Fairycakemother March 14, 2011 at 8:31 am

Sorted. Pah to complaints! I only found your blog because I was looking for UK law about selling gluten free products. Your Dominoes post answered a lot of my concerns.

Veronica March 14, 2011 at 1:16 pm

I’m glad 🙂 The dominos post was a giant nightmare with the astroturfing that happened, but I’ve had a lot of people tell me it was helpful!

Marylin March 8, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Done sweety. *hugs* xx

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:12 pm

I think it is a cruel thing that you live half way across the world from me. xxx

Hend March 8, 2011 at 10:08 pm

I admire you. Please let me know how I can send you money. I live half-way across the world but we still have Western Union. Please email me.

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:10 pm

There is a paypal widget on the sidebar, is that okay?

Hend March 8, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Done!

Hend March 8, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Done 🙂

Kelly B March 8, 2011 at 10:09 pm

You had better love me forever, I am your mother after all 🙂

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:37 pm

I will definitely love you forever. Hehe.

Tenille @ Help!Mum March 8, 2011 at 10:14 pm

I’m maxing out the credit card too, and will relive the guilt as the interest compounds.

Have tweeted, hope something comes out of it. xo

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:38 pm

It’s hard, isn’t it? I think we would have been okay, except for needing wood and water and our power went wonky and just ugh.

I saw your tweet, thankyou.

Emily March 8, 2011 at 10:24 pm

done 🙂

Veronica March 8, 2011 at 10:41 pm

Barbara March 8, 2011 at 10:43 pm

We love you to the moon. And back.

I couldn’t give as much as I’d have liked to have done, but I hope it helps.

xxxx

I love you too. And thankyou. xx

BendyGirl March 8, 2011 at 11:21 pm

We all love you lots. I’m glad you asked. BG Xx

Veronica March 14, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Asking was hard. And thankyou.

Lucy March 8, 2011 at 11:52 pm

Redearthsunset is the dregs of my Ebay account. Which is now yours. xx

Veronica March 14, 2011 at 1:25 pm

Thankyou for helping and for not making me feel bad for asking. xx

Fiona March 9, 2011 at 8:16 am

Numbers can be ported to any company here in Australia, so Telstra, Vodaphone, 3, Virgin, Crazy Johns, WHOEVER! Maybe one of those can come through.

Otherwise, does anyone have an old piece of crap nokia which makes calls and texts to send you? I don’t, but someone might!

Veronica March 14, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Crazy Johns came through with a phone to borrow – stoked!

del March 9, 2011 at 8:36 am

Only too happy to help. (Besides, I guessed the password to hubby’s paypal account (Sean M) so it made it way too easy!)
I look forward to meeting you in Sydney.

Bells March 9, 2011 at 9:15 am

Done. You are having a rough time aren’t you? Only to happy to help and will look forward to wishing you better times in person next week. xo

Katie Ann March 9, 2011 at 9:39 am

Done gladly, but the widget is only half-showing up, the right side of it is cut off on my browser. What is the goal? Mine cuts off at $3…

Veronica March 9, 2011 at 9:47 am

Sorry, it’s a bit big for my sidebar. Goal was $300 and I reached it – I am still in shock. xx

Katie Ann March 9, 2011 at 9:51 am

Oh, excellent. Treat yourself to some really nice rice then. 🙂

Tanya March 9, 2011 at 10:04 am

I don’t do paypal. Email me with your bank details and I’ll transfer tomorrow when I get paid okay hun? All your advice and help is worth it 🙂

Miss Ash March 9, 2011 at 10:15 am

🙂

Beet March 9, 2011 at 10:31 am

You give of yourself all the time Veronica with every post, it’s no surprise to any of us that everyone wants to give a little something back to help you.

xxx

Kathy March 9, 2011 at 12:32 pm

I don’t do PayPal either (like Tanya above) but if you send me an account I can drop some cash into, consider it done.

Super Sarah March 9, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I am so proud of you for asking, I wanted to offer yesterday but thought it might be inappropriate! You deserve a break and I am thrilled you will be able to come to the conference and not have to suffer afterwards financially. Can’t wait to meet you!

Mrs Woog March 9, 2011 at 12:52 pm

doneskis x

Donna @ NappyDaze March 9, 2011 at 1:06 pm

I’m so sorry to hear about this, you truly deserve a good break! You’ve put in so much effort for the Conference I feel like this is one way the mummy blogging community can give back to you.

I’m sorry I cant afford more than what I’ve donated – budget stretches tight at our house too 🙁

Beck March 9, 2011 at 1:09 pm

You don’t really know me, but I live 5km from the city and I am going too and I have a spare room, please feel free to stay here if you haven’t booked your room.
I have 3 rowdy children but you can live with that.
Thanks for organising, see you one way or another next weekend.

Veronica March 9, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Hi Beck, and thankyou so much for the offer. My room was booked at the hotel months ago, so it sould be okay. I’m really looking forward to meeting you though!

Jules March 9, 2011 at 1:35 pm

I know you don’t have the funds right now but for future use perhaps, if you take your damaged iphone to an apple store they will replace it with another one of the same model for about $120-$200 depending on what happened to it etc. It doesnt matter if it is your fault that you damaged it, they will replace anyway.
If you are really lucky you might strike an employee who feels bad for you and replaces it for free like someone did for a friend of mine. Good luck

Veronica March 9, 2011 at 2:16 pm

Oh, that is great to know! We don’t have an Apple Store in Tassie, but I might take it to Sydney with me and see if I can swing a quick visit into a store. Thankyou for letting me know!

Watershedd March 9, 2011 at 11:40 pm

Veronica, book in for a service at the Apple store in George Street if you can. Do it online. The store generally only take appointment (although the morning in rolled in with my Coke-soaked Mac three weeks from my deadline with the publisher, they took pity on me). Anyway, try to book something. There’s a store at Chatswood too, which I would be happy to take you to if you need.

Georgia March 9, 2011 at 2:20 pm

Done. I hope you have a wonderful time at the ABC.

river March 9, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Paypal stuffs me around, so will send $5 in the mail tomorrow. I also have a never used very basic Nokia or Alcatel phone I can send you. Can you rescue the sim card from your drowned phone? I have a spare vodaphone sim, but you’re with Optus….
Let me know by tonight about the phone?

Veronica March 9, 2011 at 2:48 pm

Thanks River 🙂

Crazy Johns is going to loan me a mobile phone for use over the conference, so I have access to twitter and stuff while I’m there.

Erin Schmidt March 9, 2011 at 3:16 pm

$20 was the least I could do!!

Looks like you’ve gone above and beyond your goal, mainly because you’re so awesome! 🙂

See what happens when you just ask? You shall receive!! $5, $10, even $20 isn’t a lot for some people, so combined, the power of the internet really works!!

So, spoil yourself to some Haighs chocolates while you’re there (OMG: Mint pastiles are my FAVOURITE!!) and have a bit of a relax while you can.

Oh, and enjoy the conference!!

Erin

Erin March 9, 2011 at 3:42 pm

This is my first comment but I’ve been reading before Isaac was born. I have EDS as well though not as bad as your case. I feel a donation is a small price to pay for hearing your story and feeling that someone understands.

Good Luck

Beary Godmother March 9, 2011 at 8:10 pm

One minute I’m laughing at Mr Shuffles on Twitter (@mistershuffles), the next I’m reading your blog. I have no idea how I got here or who you are, but EVERYONE deserves a Fairy Godmother once in a while. All the very best, and good luck with the conference. One of my gorgeous friends is going too.

Helen

Eva March 10, 2011 at 12:18 am

Because I read you all the time but don’t often comment, and because as a student I know what it is like to need money but not have any.
Enjoy the conference! 🙂
