Help Me Send B To Japan!

by Veronica on November 29, 2007

in Life

My friend B has been chosen from a set of applicants to go to Japan next year. She is only 13 so it is an amazing thing for her. She has until August to fundraise $1600 for her airfares and a little bit more for spending money (for meals etc).

As you can imagine, she is very excited to have been chosen, but she is a little bit overwhelmed with the amount of money her and her family have to find.

Here is where you come in.

Here is a Paypal donate button. See it? Please let me know if you can’t see it. I am going to ask you, the lovely internets for donations so that we can help send B to Japan.

Okay, so we have the button, now on to the incentive. If you comment here I will put you into the running to win -

  • – 3 blocks of Cadbury chocolate (family size) in your choice of flavours or
  • – 2 bars of Aromatherapy soap in your choice of scent or
  • – 1 bottle of Bath and Shower Gel, again, in your choice of scent.

If you link back to THIS post I will enter you twice. Thanks Lotus for that idea. You don’t have to donate to be entered, but it would be very nice. Even 20c would be much much appreciated.

If you donate, feel free to come on over and get one of these buttons. Please, only grab a button if you donate.

Make sure you link the button back to me here. Don’t know how to do that? Send me an email and I will walk you through it. my.sleepless.nights@gmail.com

Comments will be open until Jan 1st, so you have aaaaaages to get your bum over and donate some money or link back etc.

All commenters and links will be given a number and numbers will be drawn using a random number generator.

I am also willing to send the money I would have spent on a prize to a paypal account if you don’t want to share personal information.

UPDATED: To get the pretty bloggy bling to work properly, you have to click to highlight it BELOW the text. The ending bit is missing off the page, but it will work okay as long as you highlight from the bottom, not the end. Does that make sense?

UPDATED AGAIN: I am hoping that I have fixed the problem with the button. All contributions can be sent to my.sleepless.nights@gmail.com via paypal. There are some issues with HTML so please forgive me if this post is a little messy. Damn paypal HTML!

UPDATED A 3RD TIME: My Mum has just written a wonderful post about B and why she is going. Please take some time to go and have a read.

Thats okay, I am going to enter everyone who comments in the draw, whether or not they donate.

It most certainly is okay. Have you signed up for technorati or anything yet?

If you made that bit of bling, I am totally jealous of your skills.

Veronica November 29, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Tanya – Thats okay.

Dawn – Yep I made it. From an image I found on the internet. Aren’t I clever?

Sarcastic Mom (aka Lotus) November 29, 2007 at 6:08 pm

Hey, I just tried to donate, and when I clicked, it gave me an error page and said something was missing or invalid… ?

Let me know if it gets fixed.

Lotus – The button on the post isn’t working properly, however the one on the sidebar is fine. I am working on fixing it, if you have any ideas let me know? Still loving on you.

Taz – That is fine, I am not going to make people donate. People who comment get entered whether they donate or not.

Before I was a foreign exchange student in high school, I sent letters to every auxilliary group, club, and person with lots of money that I could think of requesting a small donation. Some of them asked me to do a presentation about my trip when I returned, and just about all contributed a little bit to my cause. I raised around $1000 by just asking the right people. I highly recommend it, even though it was a lot of work.

Maddy November 30, 2007 at 8:48 am

Well it certainly sounds like too good an opportunity to pass up.
Best wishes

Veronica November 30, 2007 at 9:53 am

Mum – Good!

Burgh Baby’s – That is a fantastic idea, thankyou, I will pass it on to her Mum.

Maddy – Yes, I almost wish it was me!

Leslie @ My Mommy's Place November 30, 2007 at 1:57 pm

I made a donation. It wasn’t a big one, but still. It’s something. I hope she raises plenty!

Veronica November 30, 2007 at 2:55 pm

Leslie thank you so much! She will be rapt! Make sure you grab a button okay?

lightening November 30, 2007 at 6:54 pm

What a nice idea.

What is your friend going for? Is it a student exchange? Or did I just miss that bit of information (highly possible :-) ).

Are you planning on posting a progress on how much has been donated?

frog ponds rock... November 30, 2007 at 6:57 pm

Hiya pumpkin, I have written the post about B.. and a big thankyou to burgh baby’s mum for her fundraising idea, I passed that idea on and now B is busy composing a letter.. cheers kim

Veronica November 30, 2007 at 7:24 pm

Lightening – Sorry, I was a bit short of info when I wrote the post. If you go here this should give you lots more info. I think posting un update on how much has been donated is a great idea. Thankyou.

Mum – Yay, good on her!

Sarcastic Mom (aka Lotus) December 1, 2007 at 8:30 am

Ok, I was able to donate this time (used the button on your sidebar).

:-D

Veronica December 1, 2007 at 12:48 pm

Lotus – Thankyou so much! The button for the post is fixed now.

lightening December 1, 2007 at 5:58 pm

Hi Veronica,
Just wanted to let you know I’ve written a post for you at http://lighteningsblogworld.blogspot.com/ . I have 2 blogger blogs so thought I should mention which one I had posted on.

I had a little bit of trouble with paypal (nothing to do with you – my password didn’t want to work) but think my small contribution has now gone through. I guess it’ll show as being from Jodi________ in SA. I prefer not to use my surname over the internet – thought I should link up who I am in blogging world. :-) If it hasn’t gone through can you let me know. Ta.

Veronica December 1, 2007 at 9:57 pm

Lightening – I know how you feel. I don’t use my surname for anything either. Mostly because Veronica isn’t a common name and I don’t have a common surname. Actually googling my name brings up nothing LOL.

Thankyou for the donation. It is very very much appreciated.

I just thought I’d let you know I linked to this post in my blog – http://fitcatblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/send-b-to-japan.html – I really think this is a great way to fundraise, B is so lucky to have a friend like you. :)

baby~amore' December 3, 2007 at 10:42 pm

I guess if you get a lot of one $1 it will add up to a lot over time … will paypal charge you much in fees though ?
I will send mine off tomorrow and add a link to her post on your blog … hmm I wonder if our D would like to got o Japan ;)

D. Paul December 5, 2007 at 12:56 pm

Silly question, but does it matter if the cash is American? I know our economy is dropping faster than a stone in water, but I’d like to help out if I can.

Veronica December 5, 2007 at 5:08 pm

Fitcat – Thankyou!!!

Baby~Amore – Thankyou so much! Much appreciated.

D. Paul – No it doesn’t matter in the slightest, because if you send it through paypal they will change the currency for me. Send me an email if you need to okay?

Barbara June 4, 2008 at 5:10 am

I’ve just been pootling around your website (on the links at the top) – did B make it to Japan? I’m off to frog ponds rock to read a bit more about her now. I’m always last at the party!
