I Am Going Grey Here.

in Life

My daughter climbs. Alot.

Today, she climbed up into the pantry and procured herself a bottle of chocolate sauce. Upon finding that the bottle wouldn’t open and that Mummy wouldn’t help, she had a tantrum and was removed from the kitchen.

2 minutes later, she had climbed back into the pantry and found the tomato sauce bottle. She was quite happily drinking the sauce from it.

She climbs up onto the couches and then onto the arms of couches. She tries to climb onto the window sills and complains loudly when I won’t let her.

She climbs up the pantry shelves and climbs up Nathan’s computer desk. She can climb into the computer chair to reach the computer.

If she can’t reach something, she pushes her pram or highchair to where it is and uses them as a step ladder. Her plastic chair is also a much loved step ladder.

The other day, I walked into the kitchen to find her sitting on my table.

I don’t know how she does it.

I have just had the best idea.. Now that I have stopped pissing meself laughing hun…

Ask daddy to make Amy a climbing frame thingy…

what do you reckon??? platforms attached to your old monkeybars…that sort of thing..

Taz November 30, 2007 at 8:17 pm

hmm..

i wonder if Maddison will get up to the same thing as what Amy is doing when she gets older..

Veronica November 30, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Mum – I know. *sigh* I think a climbing frame will be great in a few months time, as long as it had lots of platforms.

Taz – It depends, some babies climb and others don’t. We shall wait and see!

does the pantry have a lock? You could put one of these on it

(not rusty of course, but that’s all I could find)

Would then be easy to caulk and fill the holes when you move out.

I love how supportive your mom is – mine is the same when I talk about the no sleep I get :)

At least she is getting her vegetables!

Posting on your site makes me frantic! Because you are in Australia and I am in the USA, I am forever a day behind! I’m not ready for it to be December yet!

Burgh Baby's Mom December 1, 2007 at 5:09 am

I’d just be thankful that she wasn’t able to open the chocolate sauce. Drinking a bottle of that would be far worse than the tomato sauce. Just as messy, but still worse.

Missburrows is right–it is disconcerting that it’s already December for you. But I think that it means I’m younger here than I am there, so I should probably stay here and enjoy it!

Scribbit December 1, 2007 at 5:12 am

Must be something innate for humans to want to climb. Scary for you, fun for her.

Ah bless her little dear. We’re in a two storey house and moved in here when my daughter was 17 months. She loved the stairs and the curved bannister. She loved to climb the stairs, holding the bannister but climbing up on the outside.
Cheers

The TABLE!? Now THAT’S hardcore.

Veronica December 1, 2007 at 9:19 am

Baby~Amore – So does Amy! Arghhh. I can’t leave anything about that she may use to climb on.

Jenty – No not at all. She will spend ages trying to get up onto something.

Dawn – The pantry has stupid doors. If I can make them close properly (which is about half the time) then she can’t get into it. Doesn’t stop her getting into the sink or the table. Mum is incredibly supportive, you know as she wets herself laughing at me.

Missburrows – Yes, I supposed. And the tomato sauce bottle was a squeezy bottle so she didn’t spill any. I will get to have Xmas first! Na nanananah

Burgh Baby’s – The chocolate sauce bottle had a screw on lid. I was so thankful. Yes you are younger there, the time difference is HUGE! I know Lotus is 19hrs behind, but I don’t know what everyone else is.

Scribbit – She has a ball with the climbing. Maybe I just need to pad the floor out with gymnastic mats or something?

Mcewen – Amy just climbs up and down the stairs. She hasnt discovered that she can climb them on the outside of the rail yet.

Lotus – I nearly died. She was just sitting in the middle of it playing in the fruit bowl.

Just imagine when she hits the terrible two’s? You’ll be mobile all day. There is no cure for curiosity. It’s a gift. There are things you can put on the pantry and cupboards. Enjoy…these year pass so quickly, then you’ll be old like me, 61..my daughter is 41 seven grandchildren ages 5 to 26..I still love to breathe their breaths..the love never goes away. enjoy

I’ll never forget the first time I came around the corner to find Julia standing on the table. Not so long ago she dicovered that she can climb anywhere there are drawers, because to her, drawers = steps! Aaah!

Good luck with your little monkey!
