in Amy,Pregnant. Finally.

Today, Amy wee’d in the potty for the very first time.

She knows what the potty is for, but she is stubborn and had so far flat down refused to use it. Ever.

Until today.

Nathan and I were talking and not paying too much attention, Amy stripped naked, sat on her potty and wee’d.

She then promptly paddled in it and needed cleaning up, but hey! A breakthrough! She was thrilled to follow me out to the toilet to flush her wee (Nathan had the lovely job of washing her hands and feet while I congratulated her).

She was very proud.

So were we.

I’m still pregnant and *hopefully* that is how things are going to continue for a few more months yet. The little one is firmly head down and grinding on my pelvic floor.

As much as I would like to complain about all the aches and annoyances of pregnancy (how to sleep comfortably! heartburn! back aches!) I am just so grateful to still be pregnant.

So we’re holding out for a few more months (due date is 22nd January) and hoping that everything stays nicely put until he is ready to come without needing the help of the NICU once he gets here.

There has been lots of resting happening here, which I have found hard because oh my freaking god do you know how dirty my walls are? And how badly I want to clean them?

Sigh.

So, resting and waiting.

Waiting and resting.

I think I need some more books.

Also, today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

While I haven’t lost a baby, or even a pregnancy, this weekend reminded me of how fragile everything is.

So tonight, at 7pm I will be lighting a candle and letting it burn for an hour in remembrance of the women who have. The loss of potential. The parents who came home from hospital with empty arms. Everyone.

You should do it too.

If everyone lights a candle at 7pm (your local time) and lets it burn for an hour, there will be a wave of light that will travel the world.

Woo Hoo Amy. You go girl!! It would be so good to get Amy out of nappies before you have a new little bottom to change! Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I’m with Tiff, the walls can wait, they aren’t going to go anywhere. Just wait for the wall cleaning fairy/elf to turn up!

Not 7pm yet here in the West but will light a candle when it is ;-) I try not to think too often of all my lost babies though, just hope it happens to fewer and fewer women as time goes by.

Playing in your wee is the reward part of using the potty dontchya know? lol

lceel October 15, 2008 at 10:23 pm

I had no idea there was such a day. Annie and I have always lit a votive candle (That’s one of those little candles in the red glass in church) on December 10th, for our girl, Sarah Katherine. But since it’s the morning of Oct 15th here, as I write this, I guess we’ve got time to get this done properly, today.

I’m so glad, so very, very, glad that you and your baby are okay and hanging on. I love you guys – You and Amy and Nathan and whoever that is you’re growing inside you. I would hate to see things not turn out well.

Hooray! Gotta love the potty stuff! Hopefully she’ll keep it up, and not play in it if she does a #2!

What a beautiful idea about the candle.

Yay for peeing in the potty! I hope it becomes a regular thing before #2 makes his debut.

Please imagine me virtually washing your walls. I know it doesn’t get them any cleaner, but I’ve about scrubbed the paint off mine and would absolutely love do yours. If it wern’t for the thousands and thousands of miles and oceans and all that, I totally would.

Oh the potty training! Yay Amy!!!! Bad has been doing stripping off and using the potty on and off for a while now (mainly whenever his sister goes) but perversely, I am not ready to train him. I cheer when he does it on his own, but winter is coming and I have no intention of putting him in underwear until the snowsuits go away again.

Woo-hoo on the potty usage Amy. Hugs and kisses. There’ll be no candle lighting here. L’s lastest quirk is the smoke alarm. A candle burning 3 rooms away might set it off and annoy the neighbours. (You’ve no idea how much crap I don’t do because he’s afraid of annoying the neighbours…)An imaginary candle will have to do.
Forget the walls, they’re not going anywhere.

Marie October 17, 2008 at 12:52 am

Yay! I remember the first time my stepson actually USED to the potty as he was supposed to. Ecstatic. So nice. Sorry to hear about the paddling around in it though. Good call to have the daddy clean that up. :)

Well, I’m going to go clean my walls. You can clean vicariously through me. :)
