Missing Things

in Amy

The other day, I was debating on making a pavlova.

Then everything went to shit and I dislocated the cartilage in my knee (not recommended. AT ALL) and I didn’t get around to it.

But the whole point to me wanting to make pavlova was that I knew I had all the ingredients.

[And the sugar high as you eat it? A definite positive.]

Until, I went to look in the fridge for my cream and discovered it was missing. I was baffled. I mean, how can a container of cream just disappear? INTO THIN AIR?

I remembered putting some into our lunchtime scrambled eggs.

I remembered the phone ringing and me moving the cream into the very middle of the bench so that Amy couldn’t grab it.

What I didn’t remember is what happened to the cream after that. OBVIOUSLY I didn’t put it back in the fridge or it would have been in there.

I turned the house upside down looking for it once I realised that Amy must have been able to grab it.

Although, I spent most of my time standing outside doors, hoping like hell that when I opened them that I didn’t find a puddle of cream that had been paddled in.

No cream.

No signs.

[bad signs would have been: A puddle; footprints in cream; a white face; animals that looked decidedly more satisfied than they did]

Eventually the cream turned up hidden in the bathroom, in the pile of washing. [Bathroom is also the laundry]

Makes me thankful that she was only trying to hide it and mess with Mummy’s head. That she didn’t get the lid off and drink the whole container.

Because that? Would have been bad.

I am thankful that finding the cream eventually turned out to be not so hard, because one of my shoes? Is still missing.

Thanks Amy, I love you.

If you liked this, share!

Oh my oh my. It’s so funny you should write about this. My 4 year old stepson has recently starting a similar stunt. He’ll be walking through a room, and he’ll randomly pick something up. Then, he’ll carry it to another room and put it down. Keys, books, cups, medicine, you name it. I don’t think he’s even thinking about it. It just almost happens TO him I think. Either way, it’s irritating.

PS. SO sorry to hear about your knee. I will keep in mind never to do that thing you did (what was it?) to dislocate the cartilage. No fun.

Good luck with the shoe.

So was the cream still good? If yes, did you make the pavlova? If yes, where’s MY slice?? (You ate the whole thing didn’t you? Hid in the bathroom and ate it…)

Oh the joys of toddlerhood lol! Actually it’s good practise for later life when YOU will be the one moving things around the house for no purpose at all and depositing them in strange places. It goes with the random wandering around the house wondering why you had come into any particular room… and where did you leave whatever it was you were looking for?

Hope your knee is better soon.

Classic, I used to do that all the time.
Take stuff from the cupboards that was later required for use.

We missed out on SO many desserts thanks to my peckishness.

Ouch! Hope your knee feels better soon! As far as the cream is concerned, what made you look in the bathroom?

See – in my house, the cats would have eaten it and then hid the container.

Maybe your shoe is with my missing calculator. I’ve decided that I need to sift through the kitchen garbage before taking it out, in case there are expensive items that have been added without my knowledge!
