Saltimbanco. Just, wow.

It’s been a very long time since Nathan and I got to go out together and do something, just for us. In fact, the last time we went to the movies, I was 36 weeks pregnant with Amy.

Originally, when I saw that Saltimbanco was coming to Hobart, I thought that I would take Amy. After thinking about it for a bit and knowing that it would be well past her bedtime by the time the show even started, adding in her sensory issues (visual and auditory) and her dislike of new and unpredictable things, I wasn’t sure it would have been a good evening.

So when the PR team for Saltimbanco confirmed that yes, I could definitely have two tickets to the opening night and I stopped dancing around the living room, I decided that Nat and I had to leave the kidlets at home and go together.

Nathan was, of course, very happy to come along.

Wednesday night, we got ourselves a babysitter, and escaped out into the freezing cold, feeling like naughty children the whole time.

I cannot rave enough about how fantastic Saltimbanco was. If you’ve got a chance to see it, GO.

The performers were amazing and everything was accompanied by live music and a woman whose voice was absolutely stunning.

Five minutes into the show, I found myself wondering if they had actually managed to lessen gravity in the middle of the stage. The way the performers moved and spun, it really did look like they were less affected by gravity than normal humans.

I think I spent the first half of the show in stunned awe and the second half alternating between laughing and awe. Eddy the Clown was hilarious and I would just like to congratulate the audience member that he pulled up on stage to help him out with a portion of the act, because he was brilliant too.

Thank you so much to Cirque De Soleil for the whole experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better night to break the drought of date nights here.

Nathan and I have resolved to go out more often, which can only be a good thing.

Oh Veronica, having not been out for so very long of an evening with Nathan. You certainly chose to do it in style. I am awe just looking at the photos. It has been a dream of mine to see a cirque du soleil production, so I cannot be jealous as you both deserved this evening of colour, movement, energy and fun plus every other word that just looking at the pictures evoke. But oh Veronica, how will you top this I wonder. Perhaps the next ‘date’ could be a quiet, subtle, intimate experience just to provide contrast as I simply cannot imagine what would top this one! Although in saying that, each will be different and therefore equally special. So please keep your promise to each other and make sure you go out as adults together more often in love, obviously you will always be mindful that you have two beautiful children at home but that to spend quality time together without the constant interuptions that they give, for a night to forget all things domestic and just be you two. I am so so pleased for you both, the evening looked absolutely mind blowingly brilliant.

I’ve always wanted to see a Cirque show too and it really didn’t disappoint.

We’re definitely going to go out more often.

Brilliant – a date night is essential to a longand healthy marriage. Glad you enjoyed your night.

Veronica June 17, 2011 at 1:45 pm

So so essential. Sadly, date nights take $$ and energy and we always seem to be a bit short on both! We’re going to make time for it however.

Just love their shows, I have seen them all (well the ones that have come to Aus anyway) and they are amazing. So glad you got a chance to go and enjoy.

Lucky you! This was their first time in Tassie, so it was amazing to be able to attend.

Glad to hear you guys had a great night.

I went to see Saltimbanco earlier this year and absolutely loved it!

Isn’t it just fantastic!

I’m so sad the pictures didn’t load for me. I’ll check back later, often they load on the second visit. I’m glad you enjoyed the show. I see bits of it when they advertise on TV that they’re coming to Adelaide.

The photos are quite large in size River, I tried to drop the quality, but because they weren’t my own photos, resizing was about all I could do. Maybe leave the tab up and walk away? Sorry. xx

That looks fabulous, so glad to know you and Nat got to go out on such a fun date night! 🙂

How absolutely thrilling!
First Date nights A.C. (after children) can have the awkward silences of “what do we talk about other than the kids?”, so you and Nathan certainly avoided that issue with this brilliant night out.

One day, I will go to the Cirque de Soleil. I am glad you have seen it. 🙂

Looks wonderful! So glad you got to go…

It was awesome wasn’t it. Truly breathtaking. The Duo Trapeze women were just stunning and that performance was so so so wonderful. Oh and the singer was wonderful. I forgot to mention her in my post, but she was brilliant. That last song especially was riveting.
I’m so glad you and Nathan got to go. 🙂
