The Depths Of Darkness

in Animals

I sit here, desperately trying to ignore it.

I know that I can’t for much longer. I’ll deal with it in a few minutes, I tell myself, but in all honestly it scares me. I don’t want to have to deal with it. I want to forget about it and hope it goes away.

It isn’t going away.

I have to open the door and look into the darkness. I don’t like what I can see, so instead I come back here to blog about my fears. They flutter around my head, reminding me to ‘fix it, fix it already’. My heart races faster the more I think about it, but it is a constant reminder. I can hear it, I can see it’s by-products.

Maybe I can get some help fixing it? But no, I don’t want to have any extra mess to clean up at the end. I look around for things I can use to help me conquer it. Nothing.

I get up and get things ready to begin. My heart races as I open the door. Flutter flutter around my head they go, I try not to squeal, I try to point them in the direction to freedom. Finally! It is done. My heart comes back to normal and I relax a little. Until next time, at least.
There were goddamned birds in my fireplace again.

You need some sort of prevention at the top of chimney site. Chicken wire type mesh, or that smaller stuff they use on budgie aviaries. Wrap it over the chimney and down the sides and secure with a twist of fencing wire. Get the galvanised stuff so it doesn’t rust so fast in the weather. Make sure the birds are NOT in the chimney before you place the mesh……….

It’s almost impossible to get birds to nest in a new place. We are struggling to get them out of our roof!

I hope you’re too young to have seen Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”….don’t watch it, k? And if I were you I’d probably convince Hubs to sell the house and move. But I’m a big baby like that!

A crow once flew down my Granny’s chimney, caught fire and proceeded to fly around her kitchen.

So the 87 year old women beat it with a baking tray through the house out the front door.

they look so beautiful and majestic in flight.

But at 6 o’clock EVERY morning for 2 months they dont sound so great. Scratch scratch, flutter, flutter, bang, bang…sometimes I swore there were people climbing around in the roof. they got into ours because the flashings werent on there yet. one whole side of the house was covered in bird poo from where they were flying in and out. the handrail on the verandah was white, there were pieces of sticks and straw and things all over the verandah where they had been building nests. The poo stank.

then the babies hatched which added a chip, chip, chip, chip ALL DAY LONG. Nathan boarded up the holes and they still got in. and now for some reason there are still 2 trying to get in the roof but after the babies flew away nath finished the flashings. so they fly around and around looking for places to get in.

I used to like birds. now i get nervous when they fly even near the house.

My advice? Get rid of them asap any way you can. because not only are they annoying, loud and messy, but being in and around houses its dangerous for them and you.

That was written so well. It had me on the edge of my seat right up until the end!

Birds! I’m sure that means something amazing when you have them in your house…I just can’t remember what.
