As you know, I work in a supermarket, and we’d much prefer that unwanted goods are brought to the checkout instead of being stuffed on just any old shelf, most especially food items. Sometimes people tuck things in behind other stuff so it can’t be seen and when we smell something off the next day we have to find it before it really pongs. Just bring the stuff to the checkout and tell the service assistant that you’ve changed your mind, or that your toddler pulled this item off the shelf while you weren’t looking………we’re more than happy to put it in our waste where it can be catalogued and written off if damaged or returned to the shelf by a stock boy/girl if the item is still saleable. If Amy does open stuff and you still want to buy it, check that the bar code hasn’t been torn. Last year a customer changed her mind about a raw chicken and the checkout girl shoved it under the counter and forgot to call the stock boy to return it to the fridge, this was new year’s eve, when we reopened two days later the chook was still there………eeeuuww! sorry if this sounds like a lecture.
