When you are out in public, what things do you find abhorrant? I mean, what things drive you so batty that you just want to fix them? Or scream?
I can’t stand the sound of a crying newborn baby. The maternal instinct in me just kicks right in and my stress levels go through the roof. Tie this in with the fact that I can ‘hear’ what is wrong with the little one (Amy cried. Alot. I learnt to interpret the cries) and I just want to scream.
I heard a baby screaming the other day and all I could think about was ‘feed the damn baby! She is hungry! Just feed your kid already before my head explodes or I am tempted to feed her myself!’ It was bad. I had to hug Amy and walk as far away from them as I could.
I hate when I see obese children eating junk food. I understand that there could be other reasons for their weight problem, but when I see them eating KFC and chugging Cola, I just want to scream. What on earth are their parents thinking? These kids are being set up for a lifetime of problems because no one is teaching them about healthy eating now. Poor kids.
I can never leave a crooked painting/photo alone. I don’t care where I am, if there is something crooked I HAVE to fix it. It annoys me until it is straight.
I hate seeing children with dirty faces and snotty noses. Yes, I know, sometimes the nose runs faster than Mum can keep up with (case in point is Amy this week. Snot city here) but most mothers can keep sortof on top of it. The dirty face however? Makes my skin crawl. The exception here is if your child is eating (kids=messy eaters) or you are at a park/playground. Most Toddlers eat dirt. Mine does. This however is no reason for your child to look like they have been eating dirt when there is no park within spitting distance. Wash their face already. Spit on a tissue if you have to.
What are your pet hates?

hmm.. my pet hates…
i cant stand dog hair.. it drives me nuts.. my beautiful black labrador Taliesin.. malts alot and he sends me silly.. but i still love him..
rude customer service..
people picking there nose and eating it..
crooked paintings..
long cash register lines..
i think thats it for now.. hehe
Ooh…I was thinking today of doing the same thing…so many things annoy me
The thing that annoys me the most is people bitching about other people. There is no excuse for it. Nobody deserves to be spoken about when they arent there to defend themselves.
The other thing is people assuming things. I got badly sunburnt last weekend and I did all the right things, like constantly applying sunscreen, and a hat. But people have said to me ‘I bet you wont do that again’ like I did it on purpose!
GRRRRRRR
Hey, just stumbled upon your blog…great stuff!
My kid pet hate would be kids in strollers that should really be walking. Their feet practically touch the floor and it just looks entirely stupid. Poor kids. I bet money it’s the parents issue, not the childs. Ditto for older kids with bottles. Even pacifiers at a certain age really bothers me.
loving the xmas look..
Oh wow!! I love your new header!! Stunning!
As for pet hates…
I absolutely cannot stand it when people don’t strap their kids in car seats in the car. I have been known to shout at people in the traffic!
Pet hates?
Parents who let their child run loose in the supermarket, touching and sometimes tasting everything.
Children who removwe adummy from their mouth, speak a perfectly legible sentence, then pop the dummy back in. They’re so obviously too old for a dummy.
People who pick up a bag of grapes and munch on them while wandering around Coles doing their shopping. When they get to the checkout and the bag is only half full they hand it over saying “I don’t want these, I’ve changed my mind”.
And I’m right there with you on the snotty/dirty face.
Ditto crying newborn, pick up and cuddle at least!
People who hold up the checkout line searching for that 5 cent piece they KNOW they have SOMEWHERE Instead of just handing over the $10 they have in their hand. Ditto people who go through a wallet, a change purse, several pockets and then scrape the bottom of the handbag because “I have the exact amount…”
Can you tell I’m a checkout operator?
Worse is the customer who says “I’ve got my own bag”, hands over ONE bag, then unloads a half trolley, which she expects me to pack in it, saying “I didn’t want any plastic bags…”
Even worse? Environmentally friendly alternative bags which are dirty, smelly, scrunched up, sometimes all three. How hard is it to toss the bags in the wash occasionally, then fold them?
The list goes on, but I’ll let someone else have a go now.
Add me to the list of people who can’t stand when parents let their kids just run amuk in grocery stores (or any stores). It’s the WORST when you are in a restaurant. If your kid is going to throw a fit, or you’re going to let them run all over the restaurant, or they are screaming their brains out, ask for the check and LEAVE. (And yes, as the mother of a 2 year old, who is normally well-behaved but has had her moments, I HAVE done this.)
People at the grocery store who park their cart on one side of the aisle, then stand in the middle of the other side looking for a specific…something. And are oblivious while you stand there for 10 minutes, debating if you should say, “Excuse me,” or if they will magically find what they are looking for and get the heck out of the way.
People who see each other in a store, mall, sidewalk, and stand there discussing what they’ve been doing in the two days since they saw their friends, blocking all kinds of traffic. (Noticing a pattern here?)
People who drive under the speed limit for no apparent reason.
My biggest peeve this year are the people who claim to be SO religious, but their actions say otherwise. Don’t walk around with a big sign saying how Christian/Catholic/whatever you are, and then act like a selfish, inconsiderate, rude pig.
(It’s been a great day, can you tell? LOL!)
UG. I have so many … I like all of yours though.
My current pet peeve is when I see a parent doing something that I know they shouldn’t, but being helpless to stop it.
Case in point, a few years ago I saw my SIL feeding their then 11-month old butter right off her finger. Guess who is really overweight now, go ahead, guess.
Recently, I saw my Step MIL giving my niece Pepsi in her sippy cup. Not my kid, so I couldn’t say anything. Her older sister is 4 and has the teeth of a 50-year old. I wonder why.
OK, maybe I’m just on a “my husband’s family has bad food habits” bend these days. Must be because we’re about to visit them again. I’m going to have to work on figuring out how to be nice as I say, “Get the h&*l away from my kid with that butter/Pepsi/sugar/meat/cookie/etc.”
yes. what all of you said!
You wouldn’t like my son then! He always has a messy face. I can wash it, then two minutes later it’s dirty again. He does this thing where he sucks his lower lip, and whatever he last ate inevitably ends up on his chin!
Rudeness, nothing major just simple things like letting someone off a train or tram before getting on, a simple hand movement to acknowledge the fact you’ve let someone cross a busy street or first to an item on a supermarket shelf. Such basic stuff that I begin to wonder is it not taught anymore.
Notice a pattern? They are all to do with other people. People annoy people by treating them/their children/their own children/grandparents/strangers badly. People should be more considerate.
I agree with the customer service thing, I used to work in a bakery and now in a customer service for an internet provider and you know how rude some people can be? You always find yourself comparing to them because I am a wonderful customer, I am polite and accept what they service representative has to do to help me. I dont yell/curse/blame them for anything. Its usually not their fault. At the bakery I would get blamed if there wasn’t the type of bread they wanted!!!!!!
I hate it when people get on the bus before letting me get off when i have the buggy – then they have the nerve to huff when they either have to move off the bus again or they attempt to stay on and end up getting their feet squished… idiots!
My biggest pet peeve is when people say something rude, then try to cover it all up with, “Just kidding!”
Either have the balls to insult me or shut the hell up!
I also can’t stand to see little girls wearing low rise pants and shirts that show their midriff. They’re kids! They should dress like it!
I hate doctors all doctors! THEY are my pet peeve.
Ugh. Maybe I’m feeling particularly haggish right now, but there’s a heck of a lot of judging of other people going on in this comments secion!
I DEFINITELY have my ranting moments about this or that stupid thing or behavior… but I’m never proud of it.
I think a pet peeve is making assumptions about others and excessive judging. Sometimes it’s a good idea to just take a chill pill, man. The way “we” do things isn’t going to be right for everyone else.
Before judging another parent’s decision (unless it’s just OBVIOUSLY a danger to the child) stop and think if everything you ever did with your kid was perfect. Remember that you’re only ever seeing ONE MOMENT IN TIME.
Fuck, people. You make me want to stay locked inside my house.
Hey, V… wanted to apologize for losing my shit above.
I just have trouble with people judging others’ parenting choices. It’s so short-minded.
Guess missing John, not sleeping well, and having PMS doesn’t help.
Will you forgive me? Heh.
hehehehehe *smacks lotus behind the knees*
Oh yeah, oh yeah! I got her, I got her!!!!
hehehehehehe YAY!!!
ok now that I have stopped hi fiving myself I wish to say..
The only thing that really gives me the shits is being tailgated when I am driving … because It is Farking Dangerous.mmkay.. So stop it!!!
cheers kim..
kim’s last blog post..More Food Yum!!!!
Well, my list could go on and on….so I will only include a couple.
I agree with you on the overweight child/junk/fast food thing. On the same topic, what also annoys me is a very very very overweight person, in a motorized cart at the grocery store, buying a ton of crap. Usually soda pop, cookies and premade, frozen dinners. I know, I know, maybe they don’t know how to cook, but really, a grilled chicken breast and a baked potato with a veggie is much cheaper, healthier and a no brainer to cook.
My other pet peeve has to do with my special needs daughter. She has a genetic disorder, severely MR, in a wheelchair etc. I have a really hard time EVER getting a handicapped parking spot. They are always taken. Why? Because literally everyone over the age of 65 seems to have one. It is very easy to get one, all you need is a dr’s note. Granted, there are definitely elderly people who need them, but just because you are a little older? Honestly, I would bet a lot of those people would significantly benefit from a little more exercise! Anyway, if you ever tried to push your daughter’s wheelchair (especially in the winter), while keeping tabs on two other kids, you would understand how precious those parking spots are. Either we need more spots, or less permits. It is crazy.
Oh, and sorry for the rambling! I didn’t mean to get so carried away!
