Throwing rocks at the windows of cars is NEVER okay.

in Headfuck

We were driving home this afternoon, after an Early Intervention appointment and various other things, when someone threw a rock at Isaac’s car window.

Our car was almost on the highway when we heard the crash and felt the car shudder. Nathan spotted the rock rolling away in his rear view mirror and pulled over.

Luckily, SO SO luckily, it missed the window by about 6 inches and hit the side of the car instead.

You can see where it hit near the petrol cap and scratched. That window you can see in the corner of the photo, that’s where Isaac is.

For Tasmanians, we were leaving Chigwell, on the sliplane to the Brooker Highway when it was thrown. There is a bank there, on the left of the car, with houses, back fences and lots of scrub. Speed limit 100kmph.

The rock was thrown HARD – hard enough to shatter a window if it had hit and it was a large rock. Because whoever it was was above us, there was no way they were aiming for anything other than the windows.

I am still shaken and so so angry.

This rock, it could have killed my son. I hope whoever it was is proud of themselves and they’re bloody lucky that Nathan didn’t catch them.

The person had bolted, but the rock lay in the middle of the road still, with our paint on it.

A large rock, thrown hard at our window.

We called the police from my BIL’s house about 5 minutes later and they came and looked everything over and filed a report for us. The officer was lovely and understood exactly why we were so upset. He was also amazed at how large the rock was, normally only pebbles are thrown. Heh, normally. Rocks shouldn’t be thrown at cars. EVER.

Sick fuckers.

This is something that makes my blood boil.

There have been a few cases here of kids/teenagers just dropping bricks and stuff off motorway bridges onto the traffic below. Even if it doesn’t cause any direct injury, at 100 or 120 kmph, you’re distracted and dead.

Angela August 12, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I… I just don’t understand.

What inspires people to have such reckless disregard for others?

What causes people to be entertained by being malicious?

I hope the person who did this gets caught, and has something equally horrific done to them. Bloody bastards.

jen August 12, 2010 at 5:19 pm

This happened to a guy here in Adelaide but unfortunately it came through the windscreen from a bridge and he had to undergo months of rehabilitation. I’m so glad it only damaged your car, although that’s bad enough.

Jo-anne August 12, 2010 at 5:25 pm

I am so glad your little man is okay. I don’t blame you for being pissed off,

Brenda August 12, 2010 at 5:27 pm

OMG! That is a huge rock!

Crazy little fuckers!! Argh!

sharon August 12, 2010 at 5:47 pm

OMG! So glad you are all ok. There have been incidences of rock throwing and/or dropping things from bridges over the freeways here in WA. Some with very nasty consequences. Despicable acts by morons. I hope they catch the little shit that did this to you, although even if that happens it will probably just result in a slap on the wrist.

BendyGirl August 12, 2010 at 5:53 pm

That’s awful! So glad you’re all ok BG Xx

Lauren August 12, 2010 at 6:14 pm

AAAARGH! Bogans. This makes me mad. I am so glad you are all OK though.

river August 12, 2010 at 7:15 pm

Did they fingerprint that rock??
And why the heck not?
I hope whoever did this is caught.
I’m so glad you’re all okay.
A car can be fixed or replaced.
People can’t.

Veronica August 12, 2010 at 7:18 pm

River – the police looked it over and decided that since we’d handled it, doing DNA testing on it wouldn’t be worth it, also, they really can’t get DNA off rocks, unlike bricks, that tend to take skin off hands.

Marita August 12, 2010 at 7:43 pm

:meep: I’m glad Isaac is ok. That is scary and bad.

WarsawMommy August 12, 2010 at 7:53 pm

Disgusting f’ing behaviour.

I am so glad the little guy is OK. I’d probably still be shaking if it had been one of my kids sitting next to that window…

Kelly August 12, 2010 at 8:00 pm

How did Isaac respond to that? I’d imagine it would have been pretty mind-shattering if he could tell by hearing the noise of what had happened. Hopefully there were other witnesses in the area to take care of these *guys*

Veronica August 12, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Kelly, he was fine, the car just went THUNK! and then we pulled over, he was more worried about me getting out of the car and looking at him through the window than the actual thunk.

amandab August 12, 2010 at 8:06 pm

That is just disgusting and cowardly. What possesses people to be so irresponsible? Glad that Isaac, and everyone else is unharmed, even if you are shaken.

Alice August 12, 2010 at 8:18 pm

SICK!

Seraphim August 12, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I am so glad you guys are ok. Things like this sicken me.

Watershedd August 12, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Gutless, faceless scum. That’s as much as I can say. And to me, scum is for the lowest of the low. May karma kiss the deriere of the felon swift and hard (or his/her armpits be infested with the fleas of thousands camels)! Glad you are all safe and uninjured.

Arienette August 12, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Oh my god. I don’t even have words. I would have been shaking with rage. I almost am, on your behalf.
Absolutely scum. It happens fairly often here and I just dont understand why they think trying to kill people is funny. It’s not bloody funny.

Marylin August 12, 2010 at 9:26 pm

I bet it was kids as well… stupid kids who have been chucked out of the house from as soon as they were able to walk. No guidance, no consequences for wrong-doing.
So glad Isaac is ok. xxx

Fern August 12, 2010 at 9:29 pm

I would be fuming! It’s a shitty kind of crime where it’s basically impossible to catch who did it as well, unless they do it again and get caught.

I’m just so glad Isaac is okay.

Angela August 12, 2010 at 10:02 pm

No wonder you are angry, it made me angry to read about it. My god.

Marie August 12, 2010 at 11:20 pm

What a bunch of idiots. Seriously, in whose world is stuff like that OK? Very glad that Isaac was OK.
Though, it might still be fun to round up a posse from around the world to hunt down the punks. 😀

Barbara August 13, 2010 at 6:21 am

Bloody hell, that’s appalling. I’m so glad you’re all ok. Big, big hugs. I know you don’t drink so I’ll have a stiff one for you.

xxx

Kristin (Wanderlust) August 13, 2010 at 8:55 am

There are some sick, sick people in this world. I just don’t understand how someone could want to do that. I’m glad you all are okay. xx

Jayne August 13, 2010 at 8:57 am

Sick, stupid little pricks.
Same thing happened here in Melb with a truck passenger undergoing surgery and rehab after a large bluestone block was dropped from a footbridge over a freeway.

Kathy August 13, 2010 at 9:09 am

Oh. My. God.
So thankful Isaac is OK – so angry on your behalf at the toerag/s who did it.

Mrs. C August 13, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I’m so glad that Isaac is well… there is no protection from stuff like that from your end, so I know you must feel so helpless!!! And if they know there is a problem with that area they should install cameras or up patrols. Or even pop a fence up so that at least big rocks don’t get through. 🙁

tiff August 13, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Glad that you are all okay but you are right, it’s definitely not alright to throw rocks.

Tanya August 13, 2010 at 2:36 pm

BASTARDS.

I had one thrown from near the same area and it missed my car completely, luckily.

I’d write in to the Mercury about it, maybe they and the police would do a report on it, I bet you could find other people who’ve had their cars hit.

Trish August 13, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Scary ..they probably only give the Offenders’ a caution if caught but definitely rocks throwing has serious consequences. Glad you gusy are ok.

Jeanette August 14, 2010 at 5:56 pm

My oath, that’s hectic!! Glad it didn’t hit the window, and what a pain now having to get it fixed!

Being Me at Sunny Side Up August 15, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Holy shit that rock is massive 😮 So so glad you guys are all unharmed.

Issac August 29, 2010 at 7:33 pm
