A Refusal And A Story Of Terror

in Life

So, I should really welcome you all to 2008 and spout some shit about New Years Resolutions. But no, I won’t do that.

In lieu of resolutions, I will welcome you all to 2008 (I saved this post until late Jan 1st so that you were all in the New Year with me) and refuse to talk about resolutions. Because the fact is, I have never made one and I don’t plan to start now.

Instead I will tell you an Amy story.

Yesterday, I was sitting here, on my gorgeous laptop whilst Amy played in the sunroom. I could hear her toys rattling and talking gently (read: destroying my hearing slowly) and her talking to them.

Next thing I know there is the almightiest scream.

I dropped everything I was doing (good thing I am working at a table now and not on my lap) and literally sprinted to the sunroom (approximately 5m away).

Amy was sobbing/screaming in terror.

I looked around for the culprit.

Amy helped by pointing it out to me. Helpful child she is.

It was a feather. On the floor by her feet. A freaking feather! From the inside of a feather doona!

I picked it up and showed it to her, only to have her collapse in hysterics again.

A feather. Gah!

I wonder what she thought it might do? Maybe she was scared it was going to tickle her feet? She is very very ticklish.

Maybe she thought it would get in her nose and suffocate her? Breathing is kind of essential for a Toddler.

Maybe she thought it was going to MAGICALLY GROW INTO A GINORMOUS FEATHER WITH A HUGE MOUTH AND EAT HER UP!!! Because that it what the screaming sounded like.

Who knows? I certainly don’t. However, I will now be on the lookout for killer feathers and I will remove them before Amy ever has a chance to see one again.

PS She didn’t think it was a spider, because I am constantly having to kill them so Amy doesn’t try to play with them. Spiders are tasty don’t you know?

Also? One of Amy’s toys is possessed. I was just sitting here, typing when it decided to talk to me from the sunroom. It isn’t a toy with a touchy trigger either. No, this baby’s button needs damn near thumping to make it work. Creepy? Much.

Badness Jones January 1, 2008 at 10:05 pm

heh! Don’t you love the possessed toys? My MIL gave the Princess one that had NO off button! And it had a very touchy trigger, anyone over 100lbs walking into the room would set it off.

Sorry about Amy’s fear of giant man-eating feathers, but I hear they’re actually pretty rare, lol – she’s too funny. I wish I could read toddler’s minds sometimes…it would be pretty good entertainment.

Happy 2008!

Taylor manages to trip over…nothing (and then look back to see what she tripped on to find out that it was…nothing), so I was fully expecting you to say that NOTHING was the culprit.

Even funnier that it was a feather.

Do you get Sesame Street down there? Make her watch Big Bird on youtube if you don’t, and see if her head spins in a circle!

I was sure you were going to say there was a snake in your sunroom… a feather, though, that’s definitely scary. Imagine if it were a whole bird…

We have a posessed toy, too, but thankfully it only goes off on my husband. If it had a thing for me, I’d have thrown it in the garbage a long time ago… Too creepy.

Happy 2008! Looking forward to lots of great posts from you this year!

A feather, huh? It probably all stems from those rascals in the fireplace. Feathers, aaaahhhh!

Oh, my gosh. I had totally forgotten — my daughter Tess was terrified of feathers when she was a toddler. We had an old white wicker purse full of colorful craft feathers, and it freaked Tess out completely! I never figured out why she hated feathers, and she outgrew it eventually…

Oh feather’s are freaky. Don’t be fooled by their softness. They can reproduce at alarming rates too, especially when it involves a doona or a pillow. First there’s one and before you know it the floor is covered. A feather epidemic!

Poor Amy.
I bet you got a shock.
For me, it was balloons that scared the pants off me. (Just quietly, I still get a bit aprehensive when I see one).

Noah hates vacuum cleaners and Ivy has arachnophobia BIG time. Even when she sees a web, she screams.

We have toys that talk to me too when the babies are asleep in bed … didn’t you ever watch Johnson & friends … Toy story ?

Thanks for the bee-yoo-tee-ful blog flowers! Peter gave me ones like that once… I was going for my army fitness test to get into Reserves and if I passed then I’d be enlisted, all while he away training. So he organised for me to have flowers because he believed in me so much that he knew I’d get in!

Anyway, this isn’t supposed to be about me, it’s supposed to say that’s pretty funny about the feather!! I love reading your Amy stories.

Now every time she starts to get into things that she shouldn’t, you can just chase her away with a feather. It’ll be a blast!

Oh the poor girl. Funny story though…it made me smile:) Not to make light of her pain or anything…

Perhaps it was the feather from the movie, Forrest Gump.

I know that movie made my husband scream.
