Let’s talk about post partum hair loss.
At around 3 months post partum, my hair started to fall out. Very normal, it happened the same way with Amy. What I didn’t count on this time was ending up with two (2!) slightly bald patches near my temples. Luckily the rest of my hair covers them, but I can’t help but wonder what will happen if my hair continues to fall out.
So far, I’ve managed to create a lost hair mural on the shower wall – all in one shower, I’ve found hair in Isaac’s nappy (the jury is still out on whether he swallowed it, or whether it fell in there during a nappy change), there is hair tangled around my keyboard keys and gasp, I choked on one of my own hairs last time I was doing dirty things with Nathan. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but you don’t normally expect to choke on your own hair, do you?
All I’m saying really, is post partum hair loss is a lot more annoying than the pregnancy books would have you believe. Nobody wants to bite into a fresh baked biscuit to find one of their hairs tangled around their tonsils.
For now though, I’m going to stop running my hands through my hair and paying attention to how much is coming out. It’ll stop eventually, all by itself and me stressing about it is not going to help the matter. Although, maybe if I hope really hard, the hair on my head will stay put and all my other hair will fall out. I’d really like to not have to shave anything again anytime soon.
In other news, Isaac was 19 weeks old this Sunday just gone. NINETEEN WEEKS. Where on earth does the time go? He rolls over both ways now and when he’s on his stomach he tries to scoot forwards with his feet. I’m so not ready to have two mobile children in this house. Sure it’s childproof for Amy, but a crawling baby? With a toddler about? And all the toddler crap that gets littered everywhere?
‘Scuse me, I’ll just be in the corner rocking.
Also, Tanya had her baby on Sunday! Congratulations!
LOL, dirty things and you choked on YOUR hair? Love that visual. I bet if you put your darn hair up before the dirty things it would help. Can’t imagine having my hair down for those times. Have you seen how much damn hair I have?
So really, you loose hair once you have a kid? Hmm. I didn’t know that.

Take it from me. Sometimes, it grows back where you least want it. 😉

Funny thing, I did have my hair tied back.
I’m just going to focus on the baby and not that you have been doing norty things with Nathan. Five days in this joint and I could go crazy with those visuals.
Anyhoo, I hope the hair loss settles for you soon.

OMG!!! Veronica, THANK YOU for posting this!!! The exact same thing happened to me. It’s really frustrating, annoying, upsetting…this whole postpartum hair loss thing. I was (am still) devastated. When I was pregnant, my hair, nails and skin were flawless…now they’ve gone down the toilet. My nails are weak and icky, my hair is falling out, and my skin gets the occasional blemish when I never used to get bad skin!
The doctor keeps telling me this is normal and it’s all hormonal. Still sucks.
P.S. I found a hair that belonged to me in Little One’s diaper (nappy) the other day. Kinda freaked me out to how it got there! Weird!!!

Aww hun, I get that with my hair sometimes. Apparently it’s usually due to stress?
Isaac looks absolutely scrumptious, and so much like Amy! 🙂

I lov the pic of Isaac! He looks so angelic 😉 I want to squeeze his gorgeous cheeks!
I hear you on the hair loss! I didn’t lose any all hair all pregnancy and then it all started coming out after – thin and fine and longish! I also find some in the cooking (which is embarrassing if I’m cooking for other people). Next time I may invest in a hair net!

Rolling over and scooting already? Well obviously he’s just trying to keep up with Amy. A year from now you’ll be hearing, “Mum! He’s following me!” and from Isaac it’ll be,”Mum! Amy won’t wait for me!”
My daughter had the opposite thing with her hair and nails. For about three months she still had all the pregnancy/growth hormones so haer hair and nails were just gorgeous.
Completely ignoring the “dirty things with Nathan”….
hey
i hope your hair stops falling out soon..
he is so adorable.. ya can so tell he is Amy’s brother.. cute.
Same thing happened to me after babies, although may be worth getting thyroid levels checked if it continues. Adorable pictures!
Mine is a year old and I still have this little piece near my temple that is about an inch long and well, I hope that means it is growing but it seems to be stuck at an inch. It is driving me crazy.
Also, what a cutie!
I remember the hair loss thing well. One of my hairs got twisted around my son’s little toe to the point it was cutting of circulation…yeah, they definitely don’t tell you everything in those baby books 😉

At least you’re choking on your own hair, and not errant body hairs that have sprung forth from your partner’s body.
Isaac is so darned cute!

i knew about the hair loss after pregnancy…i had no idea it was going to be this bad. my husband is always complaining about the hair clogging up the drains and getting all over his face while he’s sleeping at night. i too have the bald spots right above my temples! it’s so embarrassing! unfortunately they are hard to cover up!
Isaac is just so cute!
I cut a fringe into my hair after my second son was born in an attempt to cover the balding temples. It worked quite well….
Isaac is so cute. He’ll be up and running any day now lol! Maybe borrow a playpen for the first few weeks he is mobile-ish until Amy learns not to leave too much stuff around, she won’t appreciate him chewing up her belongings one little bit.
What a beautiful boy.
Yeah, the hair loss thing super sucked. I lost a lot of hair after Colin, but it settled down and then got thick again. My natural doc gave me something to help – but I don’t remember what it was. Pregnancy takes a lot of minerals and stuff out of you… it can be put back, apparently. Still. Sucks. I’ve choked on my own hair while doing “dirty” things, too. ah-hem. And no, i didn’t expect that.

Try drinking apple cider vinegar with honey and hot water. 2 cups a day. Just a little vinegar, about a tablespoon and as much honey as you need to make it sweet enough. It seems to help just about everything.
We all love our babies. And also our hair… 😀

Well of course I have pinched that photo, so gorgeous, I too lost hair during pregnancy and it has never grown back to it’s original thickness, now of course I have the “Wig in waiting” in case the radiation causes hair loss.
I had such beautiful, thick hair when I was pregnant with Monkey girl, after she was born…I lost it ALL! Then it went back to normal. *sniff* Still I wouldn’t trade her for all the thick, gorgeous hair in the world.
I can’t believe Isaac is nineteen weeks old already.

Mine has always fallen out. It’s a right pain in the arse. My children are always coming out to me with their tongues sticking out begging to have a hair removed.

My hair never fell out, but my eyebrows receded. Can’t hide that sh*t, being that it’s all right smack in the middle of your face. (sigh)

Oh my goodness, when my SIL was postpartum, she had the same thing. We were over at their house around three or four months later and she made breaded chicken for dinner. I swear I pulled that hair out of the back of my throat.
Baked chicken just hasn’t had the same appeal since.
