Subtitled: I took my daughter into a commercial food preparation area and no one cried.
In aid of the Breast Cancer Network Australia, Bakers Delight is icing finger buns with pink icing, selling them and donating the proceeds to the BNCA.
It’s a pretty cool idea and something I was happy to support, especially as cancer has been a bit of a theme in our family. My great grandmother beat breast cancer years ago, but sadly lost her sister to the disease. Her sister’s ring will be my wedding ring in a few months and while I never met her, I like the family connection through my Nan.
Because the BCNA was asking bloggers to raise awareness, somehow I managed to get myself an invite to the closest Bakers Delight store, to see what they’re doing first hand and ice some buns myself.
Of course, being a “mummyblogger” I took Amy with me. What better way to ice finger buns, than to take a 4yo into a bakery?
We had fun, icing buns and chatting to the staff. Amy loved it and was so well behaved. I couldn’t be more proud of her behaviour.
Bakers Delight is aiming to raise $1m to give to the BCNA, which helps support women with breast cancer.
And, if you live in the area, I can highly recommend Tim and his team at Bakers Delight in Claremont Village. Their finger buns are delicious.

Disclosure: I was not paid for this post and I didn’t request to be. Amy and I did get to bring home the finger buns that we iced, plus a loaf of bread and some rolls – but that was because the owner/baker Tim was generous, not because he had to.
Supporting people through cancer is something I feel strongly about and therefore, so is this cause. If you can buy a bun in the next week and photograph yourself (or your child) with it, then send it to me, I’ll add your photo and blog link here.
oooooooohhh they look so yummy……lord i miss gluten!!!
glad you had a good time and got to bring home some goodies!!!!!
I miss gluten too!
I do too! Sounds as though Amy must be doing alright with it then?
Our local Baler’s delight on Saturday only had one pink bun left …so we had to halve it for the boys.
They had sold out really early like at 10-30am because they had pink ladies and breast cancer supporters there promoting them.
Love the pics.
I just looked up the Baker’s Delight website to find out if we have one locally (we do – only a few blocks away.) Apparently, all the Baker’s Delight stores are donating 100% of the proceeds to the fundraiser. That’s a pretty awesome effort for a corporate-sponsored thing. Very happy to support that and we’ll try and take a pic as well!
*superhero theme music* To The Bakery!
omg those look deeeelish! i want some!
thanks for dropping by my blog and for your sweet comments about my outfit post 🙂
Nom… that looks awesome! When I eventually come visit… can I go there?? 😉 x
I love the pink iced buns 🙂
My niece used to work for bakers delight and we’d get bags of free bread at the end of the day. Such a shame she grew up and graduated from high school and gave up her after school job 🙁
I’ve never seen iced BUNS. Are they also called “donuts?” They look TOO yummy. Hope Baker’s Delight does a big business with this idea and that they are very blessed. Thank you for promoting them and taking us on your VIP tour with you. 🙂
Do bakers delight make gluten free buns as well as the normal kind?
Will Amy be alright eating the ones you got to take home?
I’m glad you two had such a happy day doing that.
Begged, borrowed and stole (didn’t really steal…) to buy a new laptop this morning. No-one has just finished setting it up for me.
No all of the items at bakers delight currently contain gluten. They also all contain soy flour, as does just about all wheaten bread.
That being said, there are many places that do offer gluten free options. Some advertise with integrity while others ‘falsely’ promote gluten free foods. Here in Australia, Muffin Break truly is a REAL gluten free destination – separate tongs are always used (from what I’ve seen) and their savouries especially are decadently delicious. I encourage everyone to ‘give them a go’! They’re great!
I believe they were awaiting Amy’s diagnosis results, but haven’t heard anything as of recently. I take it she’ll fill us in on it when there’s a definitive answer. I believe though that with today’s practice of western medicine, coeliac disease diagnosis is far from the top of many practitioners’ priority lists, hence the natural form of treatment available (sigh).
*off to put head down for the night*
Wow, those looks so great! It looks/sounds like you guys had a lot of fun too. And since the proceeds went to a great cause, that’s another plus! 🙂
