Dear Universe: It’s getting a bit ridiculous now.

in Amy, Evelyn, Headfuck

So, Internet. Everything has kind of gone to hell around here in the last few days.

Amy has had conjunctivitis and has been home from school for a week. This morning, Nathan and I discovered that she couldn’t hear 3/4 of anything we said. Luckily, we had a doctors appointment booked already, because it turns out she has what is commonly known as glue ear and has gone quite deaf. This explains why I’ve spent the last few days demanding to know why the TV is turned up so far.

Both of her eyes are bright red still, despite drops, so we walked out of the GP with stronger antibiotics to help clear up her sinuses, which will hopefully let everything fix itself.

Also a good thing that we had a doctors appointment today: Yesterday, I realised that Evelyn was having what I thought might be seizures.

Worse than that, she was having what looked to be lots of seizures, not just one out-of-the-blue convulsion.

I managed to catch some on video, dutifully showed the doctor, wondering if he was going to tell us we were being ridiculous, only to have him look quite concerned. This, I might add, is our incredibly laid back GP, who never seems concerned about anything.

He agreed that they certainly looked like seizures and is currently organising for us to see the hospital clinics, as soon as we can for follow-up. Probably early next week.

Her jaundice still hasn’t cleared up, which could be causing them – which wouldn’t be so terrible. Except then you wonder why her jaundice isn’t clearing up, when she’s feeding and gaining weight so well.

Around in a loop my brain goes.

They’re not terrible seizures, involving mostly eye flicking, rolling and blankness. They last anywhere between 15 seconds and a few minutes and she’s unresponsive while they occur.

She’s only 33 days old.

It hardly seems like we could have broken her in a mere month!

This is why new babies need warranties IMO.

That’s a lot for someone who recently had a baby! I do hope everything works out to be nothing.

BTW, I think kids in general need a reset button. Do take care luv.

Oh my, that is really ridiculous! I hope with the new meds Amy gets well soon and the doctors find a not too scary diagnosis for Evelyn soon. Crossing my fingers that the universe gives you and your family a break from all that shit happening asap!

Alison August 30, 2012 at 5:44 pm

Oh, I hope Evelyn will be alright! And Amy to get better soon.’

Universe, give Veronica a break!

I am beginning to suspect that things don’t ever go just a little bit wrong. It feels a bit all or nothing. I really hope you get quick and easily fixable/not worrying answers about Evelyn and that Amy’s super-strong anti-biotics work quickly. Much love to you all.

Goodness me. Enough is enough.

My oldest had petit mal seizures, sounding very similar to what Evelyn is having. While very scary, she did grow out of them. Hugs

Just wanted to say Hugs. And if it dont rain it bloody pours!
I hope you get some answers quickly

I don’t swear much, it just isn’t me….but I just dropped the F word in hearing distance of my kids…gosh I hope it is nothing to be concerned with and they can give you good help next week.

Just reinforces to me that karma is a crock…’cause sometimes good people seem to have more than their fair share of ‘stuff’ to deal with.

Thinking of you and your lovely family and hoping you are ok.

Anne August 30, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Oh wow…hoping Miss A and Miss E both get better quickly…what a lot you are dealing with!
Sending cyber hugs:)

Louisa August 30, 2012 at 8:53 pm

Hi I was given a link to your blog from a friend who follows you. I have a little girl, charlotte who is 6weeks old.

About three weeks ago while driving in the car my older kids said she must be having a bad dream. After stopping to check her out she was having what looked like a seizure. I was close by the hospital. The hospital then sent her via ambulance to children’s. After 4 days tons of testing she was diagnosed with benign neonatal sleep myoclonus. There is a video on YouTube that looks identical to what my daughter was doing. I hope you guys find the answers quickly.

I really hope there’s nothing serious going on with Evelyn, I googled jaundice in newborns and got some scary information. all difficulties considered, maybe she should have stayed in the hospital until the jaundice was cleared. Not the nicest of options, but still…
Did the doctor mention anything about draining Amy’s ears? I hope the antibiotics work instead, I have memories of my ears being syringed multiple times and now both eardrums are scarred.
I’m sending wishes to the universe that everything gets resolved quickly without further drama.

Gosh, that’s so hard Veronica.
Thinking of you all,

I’m so sorry to hear this week has been such a tough one. Hopefully Amy clears up quickly with the new drugs. Good on you for following up with the seizures. After some serious complications with my daughter when she was a baby, I’m so grateful I listened to my mother’s intuition and followed up. She received prompt medical care in a timely manner and she’s a healthy 8yo now. Others told me I was over-reacting but I’m glad I listened to that inner voice. Take care and I’ll be thinking of you this week x

oh, fingers crossed for all of you, those that are sick and those that need to worry and care for them xo.
