Hey Internet, guess who was discharged from NICU at lunchtime?
We’re both on the ward for another day, but if Evelyn’s billirubin levels are still below the line tomorrow morning, then we’ll be discharged together.
I’m having to give extra top-ups after feeds still, to make sure she’s getting the calories she needs, but luckily I am producing so much milk that it isn’t an issue. Now to stock up on pigeon bottles and teats!
I think a few of the nurses would have preferred that Evelyn was entirely breastfed with no bottle, but frankly, I’m doing whatever needs to be done here. If that means top ups with a bottle, then that’s exactly what I’ll do.
In the meantime, I didn’t realise how stressed I was until some of it eased.
Now if you can all pray for low billirubin levels, I would be incredibly grateful.
Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels,Low billirubin levels.
Hooray!!! SO pleased to hear this.
Congratulations on the birth of Evelyn! Sounds like she is doing fantastically and am happy to hear you will be discharged together tomorrow. Great news!
NICU life is hard but it makes the bubs stronger because of it. My younger spent 6 weeks in NICU after been born prem at 31 weeks but honestly has less health issues than his older brother {although luckily they are both pretty healthy!}
All the best with the upcoming days and weeks. Congratulations again
Yay!! Stoked to read this!!!! xox
HUZZAH!
Fantastic news, V! Yay! Keep going, little miss 🙂
Fabulous! Great to hear it’s all coming along so well 🙂
YAYAYAY! Such a clever girl, Evelyn! Hope you both can go home together after one more day in the ward!
Thank you all. I am panicking a bit about the billirubin, but lets cross our fingers.
wooooooooooooooooooooo
Great news! Thinking goood bilirubin thoughts!
Firstly, congrats V! She’s gorgeous!
Next… When Poppy was born, she didn’t suckle very well (if at all) and I was topping up with bottles in the hospital from day three and contined with EBM up until only three weeks ago (when she was 8 months old), and I always got the feeling that the nurses were miffed that she was being bottle fed with EBM instead of sucking naturally, but I did what I had to do to make sure my baby girl got all the milk she needed and so I wasn’t stressed worrying about how much milk she was getting and if it was enough…
Never let them make you feel like you’re not doing it properly, or that you’re not doing it “right”. You are doing your best and she is thriving because of it. Poppy and I are proof that you don’t have to breastfeed to get breast milk and still be okay.. You’re doing an amazing job, don’t let ANYONE make you feel otherwise!!
Great news!! Hoping for low billirubin levels so you both can go home!!!
Now this is the best news. Willing those billiburin levels down, down, down…… Nearly home. I am sitting at home in the UK completely excited, happy for you, so so happy for you.xxxx
Hello, congratulations, welcome darling baby Evelyn (such a sweet name) and great news on the NICU discharge. Hope all is continuing well tonight. Sending my best hopes over the tubes to you both xxxRach
Praying has commenced!
Pigeon bottles and teats?
Are they a specific type of bottle?
I’ve never heard of those, must go off and google.
Congrats on meeting the big milestone & being able to leave NICU & rooming in together!! I remember that feeling & there is nothing like it.
I hope the ebm is continuing to flow & that the billy level stays down too.
Sometimes nurses show their concerns in funny ways, I honestly done think they mean to offend or make us feel bad they are just trying to make this process happen with as less obsticals as possible so you can get home. Some people are over the top about no bottles and exclusive breastfeeding but just do what you and Evelyn are most comfortable with and I’m sure it will all fall into place. Xx
