We were in the garden the other day when Amy spotted two snails having sex.
“Mummy, what are the snails doing?”
“They’re making babies.”
“How do snails have babies?”
“They lay eggs.”
“Oh. And then the babies will hatch and eat our plants?”
“Probably.”
Five minutes later, the snails were slowly going their separate ways (they must have been at it all night to be done so quickly) and the ducks were at the gate looking hungry.
So I picked the snails up and threw them to the ducks.
I’m pretty sure they died happy, if we ignore the moments of terror when first they flew, (snails are not designed for flight, by the way) and then were eaten by hungry ducks.
at least you let them finish first 🙂
That’s what I was thinking!! Ha ha!
Well it would be a pretty good way to go 😛
Lol! You crack me up!
you saved that lady snail from morning sickness and heartburn. You did a kindness to her and your plants and the ducks.
oh, and also. I have never seen snail sex. They must go away on dirty weekends to the country to do it.
snails feed ducks, ducks feed plants, plants feed you. I see survival, no guilt.
Thank you for this. I came across your blog while doing EDS research because I now have bone pain, which I’d never heard of with EDS, and it’s worse than joint pain, but maybe that’s just because it’s more prominent right now & in so many areas. Anyway, I’m lying here in pain with no pain mgmt or comfortable position and then I read this. So, thank you. Distraction and comedy are my coping methods.
I am really really glad that I could distract you. I get bone pain occasionally and I agree, it’s definitely worse than joint pain. I found heat packs helped a little. Good luck. xx
Thank you, Veronica. 🙂
I love this – it made me literally laugh out loud 🙂
Its one of the reasons I love reading your blog (I read it daily but dont always comment) – I would have done the same thing. Who knows maybe they were adrenaline junkies and loved the fly through the air 🙂
Good on you! Ducks love snails don’t they. One time we fed our (late) duck 80 of the little buggers. She just kept coming back for more & we were more than happy to indulge her with as many as we could find.
Have I told you lately how much I love you? No? I do!!! 😀 x
I was driving down the highway once. Two birds were going at it. The one that was on top flew out of the way and my front tire went over the one that was on the bottom. When I looked in the rear view mirror the surviving bird had flow back to check out how his lover was. They were probably life partners. I felt pretty bad about that one.
A good way to go.
