I was the weird child at my school. Rumours about “those hippies on the hill” flew through our conservative community with relative frequency and I was stuck at school with all of the super straight, super normal kids, whose parents had 9-5 jobs.
Add in that our house had no indoor plumbing and the power came from a meter box through a series of extension cords and power boards and you had a recipe for school yard teasing.
I was also quite smart, which I’m absolutely CERTAIN helped me to be pretty much a social outcast for a lot of school.
Of course, when you’re the weird kid at school, you absolutely need to dress up like Wednesday Addams for the Dress Up Night.
Doesn’t it just make SO MUCH SENSE?
You can see why I had very few friends, can’t you.
PS, Happy Birthday to my Father today! He’s responsible for 50% of my awesome you know.
But look how GREAT you turned out! 🙂
*splutters* what do you mean BUT look how great she turned out? As if she turned out great despite her hippie parents with their weird electricity set up. *sobs*
Kim, focus on the GREAT, not on the BUT. Read it as AND look how GREAT…..
I think you got the experiences many people now go backpacking for, a simpler life, a life closer to the beat of the earth. Consider yourself very fortunate. X
Yes ,Veronica be very very thankful. Can you imagine the horror of being forced to live in a house with white walls, a perennially changing tablescape at family dinners and only some artfully arrange throw cushions for colour?
Don’t be silly. Look how great despite all the teasing in school. Not because of her mom and dad. I had some wild parents too, and I love them dearly. But, I was taunted and teased relentlessly in school too. And, I think I did pretty well too.
I think that Veronica’s parents, her Mother especially should be given lots and lots and lots of credit for how awesome Veronica turned out. And I think blog posts where the author is shown to have been previously impersonating Wednesday Addams call for a little bit of silliness, don’t you agree?
*gags* ugh. Target cushions and mass produced prints.
well i acturally liked ur uniqueness in high school and though u were pretty awesome and was uite jealous of your bus ! 🙂
if you’re weird, you might as well go full weird.
i think you had a pretty awesome child hood. had some of my best times at your place. weather it be camping out til all ours of the night in the cubby or playing kick the bucket. not to mention birthday week. now you have a growing family and you are an exceptional mum. you only learn from the best.
Great post. x
LOVE the photo. Kudos to whomever captured that moment 😉
I think I would have loved living like you did when I was a child. Being a loner like I was it wouldn’t have bothered me that the other kids thought I was odd.
