Sick and Tired

in Life

The kids and I are all sick, Amy is slowly coming off her gluten high and being nicer, just as Isaac refuses to sleep. He screams in his cot while Amy swirls and twirls in front of me, just our of reach of my grabbing arms and the hairbrush. My stress levels are through the roof and today’s bedtime is not a good one.

Every time I cough I feel faint. It’s just a bad chest cold, not an infection, so short of staying in bed for a week, there is not a lot I can do to help it move along and fuck off already.

Can you hear my maniacal laughter at the thought of actually getting to stay in bed?

AHAAAAHAAAAAAAAA.

Cough.

Splutter.

Aside from that, things are good here. So much nicer now that Amy is off gluten, even if our time out count today was much too high (throwing food, throwing toys, she got into a bag of flour, etc etc). We’ll hopefully see the results of those tests in about 3 weeks.

So that’s me.

How are you?

Fiona October 26, 2009 at 6:40 pm

I’m sorry, but the getting into the bag of flour made me giggle. Was she exacting revenge?

Take care..

Hope you’re feeling better soon. Seems more than a bit unfair that just as you get a handle on one problem another one crops up! At least you know that Amy will continue to improve over the next few days. Is Isaac teething again?

Tanya October 26, 2009 at 8:22 pm

This is just a ‘down’ day for you. It will get better, stay positive. 🙂 I had an ‘up’ day today, Emily slept and fed all day. But on the other hand, we are trying to wean her onto a bottle for her nightly feed and she is digging her heels in.

Poor you. Feel better.Don’t you just love how they tap in to the fact that you are at your worst and make sure they don’t take it easy on you that day!

Marylin October 26, 2009 at 10:43 pm

Bloody well get Nat to deal with the kids etc for a day and let you stay in bed – he’s at home all day now too I think, isn’t he? He can bring Isaac to you when he’s hungry etc and otherwise let mummy have a day off. You more than deserve it imo!

Hope you start to feel better soon hun xx

we’re sick as dogs too, but after five days I THINK Miles’ fever has finally broken. we’ll see after naptime. On the plus, Oscar is too sick to do much but sit around and watch TV, so there’s that.

Leslie October 27, 2009 at 2:02 am

We’re all sniffling and coughing around here. Hope you feel better soon!

Hyphen Mama October 27, 2009 at 2:13 am

UGH. I HOPE HOPE HOPE you can stay in bed for a day or 2!! What are the odds?

Mack has been up all night with a fever. That means I’ve been up all night, too! Today is going to require a lot of caffeine.

Hey Ms V: If its any comfort we’re all sick over here in NZ and my kids are FIFTEEN! I think Simon has a bloody sinus infection so we’re off to the doc and his twin Jacob is flaked out in my bed with a sore throat as well. My throat is sore but we aren’t acknowledging that or I might get sick. I had swine flu in August so I dn’t want anything else thank you very much…and yes it IS as bad as they say.

My sympathies are with you girl! See if you can get their dad to watch them for at least a naps worth of time…

Oh how I wish I could come over and help you out. Unfortunately that just isn’t happening. So hang in there and make sure you eat, drink plenty of water and have some chicken soup. Sleep would be extra nice so get to bed early when possible.

Joyce-Anne October 27, 2009 at 1:55 pm

It’s when you’re sick you really need the help. You know I’d be there, I just wish I weren’t half a world away. Seriously, Monkey Girl and my little Mayor would definitely keep Amy busy for a while. Feel better soon.

I hope you feel better soon. I’ve managed to avoid getting any colds again this winter, but still had a few days of feeling blah. Not sick, just blah. I got fed up with myself and cut off my hair, well six inches of it anyway, and immediately felt better. Odd. Things are bund to get easier now that Amy is off the gluten, and she’ll calm down enough to let you brush her hair and do other girly things. Maybe she’ll play with Isaac more and give you some free time. If not, hand them to Nathan and go for a nice looooong walk.

I’m sorry you guys are sick. I hope you feel better soon.

achelois October 27, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Oh my poor blogger friend – I hope you feel better soon. Thinking of you all but especially you. xoxox

lceel October 27, 2009 at 11:35 pm

Was that gluten-free flour?

Rachel October 28, 2009 at 3:58 am

Yuck. Isn’t that the way it goes? You’re like hey maybe I can breathe… oh wait, now I have a cold and really can’t breathe. Oh, and the baby’s crying. Excellent.

That’s pretty much how it is over here too. But at least you managed to blog through it, I haven’t had a chance to blog in a week. Lame.

Take care of yourself, your wee ones, and hopefully the red-eyed gluten monster will fully let go of Amy soon!

nikki October 28, 2009 at 3:58 am

Duct tape them to the wall and go take a nap. Works at my house! Haven’t been arrested yet either!

Barbara October 28, 2009 at 5:45 am

I’m with Marylin, your mum, Xbox and Taz – that’s five of us now. Mind you, I like what Nikki has to say as well – that’s a fine idea!

I’m glad you’re all done with the gluten – good luck with the results and yay for having your lovely girl back.

Feel better soon. I’m sending you virtual lemsip and hugs today.
