Sunday Selections

in Blogging, Grief

I am finding that I am in dire need of cheering up. Between watching incidents of bullying play out online, (yes, you ARE a bully if you incite your followers to attack someone and don’t do anything to clear up muddied water) and ending June, it’s just been unpleasant. On the upside, it was Nathan’s birthday on Friday (Happy Birthday honey!) and my chooks are laying eggs again. It’s the little things that help.

So today, I’m sharing some photos. Some recent iPhone photos first, then a couple from a few summers ago and then some of me as a very small child.

Yes, those are geese and yes, they were taller than me at the time. No, I am not scared of geese and apparently I never have been. Geese have never attacked me – I guess that’s the benefit of holding the feed bucket though.

I think I have a recollection of being chased by geese. You certainly look very much in charge of those ones…!

You know that if you’re being attacked, it means people think you’re a threat? Consider that. Someone is fearing you for some reason. But regardless of that, do what is right for you, right now and remember that what others think of you is really none of your business. It’s all about them…

I was very much in charge. That flock chased my uncle (a grown man) and I apparently waded in going “NO, you don’t run away silly, you just shoo them. Like this! SHOO! SHOO!” and they listened to me.

I’m lucky that this particular incident doesn’t involve me personally. But it’s just horrible to watch it happen to someone else.

Lovely photos Veronica. Especially like little you with the geese. Happy Birthday to Nate for Friday.

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 12:46 pm

Thanks Mary. I am hanging on Summer time again. I hate that we didn’t get much of a summer this year. I think MONA week was the nicest week we had!

Bush Babe July 3, 2011 at 12:57 pm

All great shots for different reasons but that water photo ROCKS! Great job.
I hate bullying… can only guess who. And (just like in real life) I won’t even go look to see. Attention seems to ‘feed’ bullying, don’t you think?

Yeah, trust me the bullying is just, ugh.

I had a lot of fun playing with the hose and the camera in summer.

tiff July 3, 2011 at 1:11 pm

Love the first one. So crisp and the colours are very winter.
Also, how cute were you?

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:41 pm

I was rather cute, hehe.

tiff July 3, 2011 at 1:13 pm

Also, I have just finished a long sad post that is very much in tune with the whole season. I loathe Winter.

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:44 pm

I loathe winter too. I really need some sunshine and warmth.

pixie July 3, 2011 at 1:31 pm

wonderful pics.
I love the ones of you on the horse…..I dreamt about horses last night.
Amy looks like you as a littlie.

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:45 pm

Yep, aside from the first 6 months when they both looked very much like their father, now they both look like me.

river July 3, 2011 at 1:57 pm

Mummified fruit and thistles?
I love you and your nan on the horse.
Odd to see you shorter than geese, knowing how tall you are now.
The last photo looks like Isaac.

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Yes, would you believe, I didn’t get a single cherry from that tree and yet, the pips are still stuck to the tree, mocking me?

Melissa July 3, 2011 at 2:54 pm

That third photo looks like some kind of heaven to me. A blanket, a thermos of coffee and a book is all you’d need.

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:49 pm

It looks heavenly, until you realise that that grass is waist high (on me) and probably snaky and definitely spiky. It is pretty here though.

Kelley @ magnetoboldtoo July 3, 2011 at 3:16 pm

Love the one of you and your Nan.

🙂

Elephant's Child July 3, 2011 at 3:18 pm

Loved the thistles. And the geese. Did you know that in parts of Europe they use them instead of watch dogs and a blow from their wings can apparently break a leg?

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 3:37 pm

No, I didn’t know that! I don’t doubt it though. I would like to have watch geese.

Jean July 3, 2011 at 7:43 pm

These pica are wonderful. Hey, most of our hens are laying at the moment too (although one of them seems to be losing her feathers!). It’s really lovely collecting warm eggs every morning XXX

Jeanette Verster July 3, 2011 at 8:06 pm

Love the first one!!

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Thank you!

Louisa July 3, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Try not to let the bullying thing get to you; I know it’s hard xx

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 8:33 pm

I think I’m lucky, because I’m not directly involved, I’m just left spluttering and going ‘but wait, that’s not what happened!’ and trying to explain. When really, people don’t want explanations anyway, so it’s wasted effort.

Louisa July 3, 2011 at 8:35 pm

You’re right, noone really wants an explanation but a lot of ppl (not all, mind you) do want a bandwagon. A bright shiny one too!

Veronica July 3, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Yes, bandwagons painted in nice bright primary colours.

Louisa July 3, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Gosh you make me laugh!

Kim (frog ponds rock) July 3, 2011 at 8:48 pm

Look at you and Mum :). I miss my geese.

amandab July 3, 2011 at 10:21 pm

Love the first twoo and the water 🙂

OMG!! Aren’t you and Isaac alike!! I mean genetics and all, but mix up the photos and who would know?
All my sisters are afraid of anything feathered and I am so glad Miss 4 isn’t also. Not that she’s keen on geese, she’d rather have a turkey.

Marylin July 3, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Oh my god, you on a horse! As a baba!! LOVE it! xxx

Recycled Relix July 3, 2011 at 11:14 pm

Hi Veronica, I loved the photo of the churches?? And my memory of geese is my brother being chased around the backyard by about half a dozen of them. He used to tease them and then run, he wasn’t alway fast enough and they got him good! He had red welts on his back for the remainder of the day. I can remember really liking that the geese could catch him ‘cos I couldn’t! 🙂

rachael July 4, 2011 at 6:47 am

must try the shooing of geese. Running away has never worked. Shooing might.

Achelois July 5, 2011 at 7:58 pm

We have lots of Geese too many really but don’t get me started on that! In our village millpond. Ok too many are not good for the millpond bla bla bla bla….. Adore the photo’s of you as a baba and my word you were a bendy little girl.

A belated Happy Birthday to Nathan.

I visited the place where the nastiness took place I don’t know why, but its very cruel and very very unnecessary and its so very sad and I feel useless because I feel angry and have nowhere to put my anger about it. I hope it stops and those concernced understand that the blogosphere should be a safe place where there is room for everyone with no need to behave thus. So shooo shooo nasty bullies shooo….

Thank you for the photos I like them, a lot.
