The new floor.

As promised a few days ago, I give you …

THE NEW FLOOR!

New Floor 2

New Floor

Again

It’s been in for almost a week now and I’m still loving it. It makes the kitchen look so much better, even if it shows off the extreme crappiness of the rest of the kitchen.

It’s wood look vinyl and it was installed by Hayes Flooring, who sadly, don’t have a website. They should fix that. Every business should have an easily found website. No really, they should who apparently have got themselves a website in the last few weeks. Yay! I’ve got no complaints about the installation, all up it took 3 days, for the tearing up of the floor and then the laying of the new vinyl. I’d recommend Hayes to everyone.

(It probably helps that Hayes worked with my insurance so I personally didn’t have to pay a cent for the installation. Just the excess fees. Although, that probably counts. Hell, I’m not complaining. Brand new floor people!)

Even better though? It means Isaac can play in the bathroom while I shower, so I’m not worrying about him choking and dying while I stand under the hot water. The old floor was full of staples and nails and poky bits and it was just hideous.

Here’s some photos from the pulling up.

Old floor

Newspaper underneath

It was a mess the first day. The guy who pulled everything up did a good job getting all the newspaper up. A good portion of it looked like it had been glued down. it was a bit of a nightmare.

Oh and these photos for the hell of it.

Amy in the TV cabinet

Amy likes to pull all the magazines out of my TV cabinet and hide in there. In this photo she’s shouting HEY! after I opened the door and snapped her photo. She’s very cute.

Isaac 8.5mths

And Isaac. He got his first tooth yesterday night. It’s very exciting. At least it was, until he bit my nipple today. I’m slightly less excited about his tooth. It’s very SHARP and NIPPY and he tries to chew on me. ‘

Not fun Isaac.

The floor looks lovely. It’s a pity Australia Post would have conniptions if your faithful readers tried to send you their spare cans of paint for your cupboards. I’ve got a can of Leprechaun Green that you’re welcome to 😉

The floor looks fantastic! I am sure you are very glad to have a floor that no longer has staples. How are you coming along with 3 weeks of gluten?

Ali October 13, 2009 at 3:56 pm

The floor looks really nice.It makes such a difference to have something nice and new and easy to keep clean when you’ve got a little one who will roll around putting things in their mouth and generally being as dangerous to themselves as possible.

I love the floor! It’s the most wood looking vinyl I’ve ever seen. at first I thought it really was wood. I was thinking, “wasn’t Veronica getting lino in there?” It looks so much safer than the old floor. Amy is cute, still climbing I see. Woo-hoo on the first tooth, not so yay for the nipples though.

Tanya October 13, 2009 at 4:44 pm

it’s lovely to hear that you are in good spirits!

clmbing into the cabinet and a new tooth? they keep you entertained don’t they!

Janet B October 13, 2009 at 5:03 pm

Looking damn good! I love wooden flooring – we had our lounge area done a couple of years ago – best thing ever!

Brenda October 13, 2009 at 5:31 pm

Yay new floors!

Isaac is way too cute! And Amy…priceless. Yes just like that Mastercard or is it Visa TV ad? =)

Adele October 13, 2009 at 6:00 pm

That floor makes angels sing. I imagine you are jumping out of your skin with excitement! Good for you I say, enjoy the hell out of it 🙂

Sharnee October 13, 2009 at 6:18 pm

OOOh that is lovely vinyl! We have some ultra crappy vinyl that the vacuum cleaner lifts up every time I vacuum in our kitchen – can’t wait to re-do the whole room (lord knows when, maybe if a zillion dollars falls into my lap?). Oh and I should tell you that I heard Stef talking to my mum tonight about lemon butter and I heard him say – whilst I was in the kitchen – “yeah one of Sharnee’s blogger friends, Veronica, has given me a few ideas about how to make my lemon butter better” and my mum was all “ooooh, tell me”. Hahah. It’s serious business right now.
And Isaac, don’t bite!

Marylin October 13, 2009 at 9:11 pm

That flooring looks great! 🙂

Ashlie- Mommycosm October 14, 2009 at 12:32 am

Love the floor!

And, ouchie. I remember the days of breastfeeding with a teething baby. Not fun at all. No permanent scars though.

lceel October 14, 2009 at 1:04 am

Awww. Kiss it and make it better?

Cat October 14, 2009 at 2:03 am

I love the floors almost as much as I love Isaac’s slobbery chin. I could eat off of both of them 🙂

Sass October 14, 2009 at 5:35 pm

Well. It’s about damn time I FINALLY reach your most recent post. I stumbled upon your blog a week or more ago, and when I find one I really like, I start from the beginning. I just now got all caught up. Reading all your posts one after the other is sort of like renting a series on dvd and sessioning through multiple seasons in a weekend. It makes me feel like I really get to know the characters, which is sort of how I feel about you and your family now. It’s also given me a brand new perspective of Australia, which I’ve always found intriguing to begin with. I had lots of stereotypes in my head, but they’re slowly dissipating.
I find myself wanting to hear more about Nathan and how he participates in parenting (not because I don’t think he does, but because you rarely talk about him). I remember reading, though, that he’s not super excited about being on here, so I understand. Still curious, though. I’m also curious about the gluten free diet as I’ve heard going gluten free does wonders for a lot of people.
I’m thrilled and blown away by your Mom Skills. I’m almost ten years older than you and can’t imagine being a parent. I have enough trouble taking good care of myself and my three cats. It sucks (quite the understatement, I’m sure) that you have to deal with your health issues on top of being a mom to two very young children. I thought that kind of crap only happened to old(er) people? I mean, I obviously know that’s not the case, but it doesn’t make it suck any less. And on top of your grandmother passing, the mood of your writing has changed significantly since Isaac was born. My grandmother had surgery early this morning, and considering the fact that she wasn’t expected to survive it (but would have died anyway without it), we’re okay, so far. But all the stuff you’ve written about your grandmother has make me think of mine.
Like I said, I don’t have kids of my own, but reading stuff like what you write, even including all the trials and tribulations, makes me feel like someday, I need to.
Also, and maybe most importantly (?), I SELL VIBRATORS! It was part time for the last (almost) two years, but I was very recently laid off, so I’m going to try like hell to make it a full-time thing, as working from home is waaaaaaaay better than working forty plus hours per week for The Man. Plus, it’s really fun. Since I’m in America (Iowa, actually), shipping costs would be ridiculous, I’m sure, but I might be able to work out some kind of deal for you if you need something new. I ship to a friend in Germany regularly and the only issue is when the packages get held up in customs and her boyfriend has to explain in great detail exactly what’s in each package (HA!). Check out the website I listed to see what’s available. I’m willing to offer advice and answer questions, too, if you have them!
This is by far the longest comment I’ve ever left anywhere, and I’m feeling a little weird and stalker-ish about it, so I’m done now.
Thanks for being an awesome and entertaining writer.

Sharon October 14, 2009 at 7:32 pm

YAY for the new floor. All you need now is a tin or two of paint and the kitchen and bathroom would be totally beautiful.

Amy is just too too much. I have a photo of my elder son ‘hiding’ in a shelving unit, amazing how small a space they fit into but how much room they take up in your heart.

So,Isaac, one down and 19 to go lol! With a bit of luck it’s partner will be through in a day or two and then you’ll have a bit of peace (and healing time for the nipped nipple) before the next one puts in an appearance.

Xbox4NappyRash October 15, 2009 at 12:17 am

Laughing at Sass, liking the floor.

In as much as anyone can like a floor in another hemisphere.

Hyphen Mama October 15, 2009 at 1:00 am

I love your floor!! Whew… it’s done!

Isn’t it funny how kids can fold themselves into the tiniest little bundle and fit anywhere? Oh, Isaac… you’re growing up SO FAST!

Robin G. October 15, 2009 at 5:18 am

Beautiful!

Jeanette October 15, 2009 at 6:57 am
