I found a white faced heron hunting in the back corner of my paddock the other day – we have a swampy area that the ducks haven’t yet discovered. It’s filled with wrigglers, bugs and all kinds of delicious things for a heron. Obviously.

How beautiful. Is that snow on the ground?
Kristin – Nope, that’s standing water with the sun shining on it 🙂
Gorgeous!
You lucky girl! I’d love to see them in my garden 😉
Beautiful! I really miss the water birds from Katherine, in the Top End. They make the most beautiful calls and used to visit my pond occasionally.
from vibrators to birds. lol.
gorgeus heron pics. :o)
I’ve never seen a heron before. He’s beautiful, as are your photos of him.
Are they only native to tasmania? Or are they elsewhere in Australia? They look lovely
Kelly – No, these ones are throughout most of Australia, very common near water. They’re lovely aren’t they?
Those photographs are beautiful. The only animals I catch in my backyard are the squirrels mutilating my tomatoes. (Damn rats.)
All great pictures of a lovely creature, but that last one is stunning!
WOW! Beautiful photos!
How very beautiful! We have great blue herons and little green herons, but I’ve never seen a white faced heron before. Nice neighbor.
Great images
I’m terrified of birds (all that flapping), but herons and egrets fascinate me. I could watch them for eons.
