Before and After

in Life

Look! Look at what my father did for us today.

Before:

What you can’t see in this photo are the scratches, pockmarks, holes and stains in the laminate surface. You also can’t see that it’s way too short to work at comfortably.

This is what we have now, care of a piece of pine from my uncle and an awful lot of work from my father.

After:

Now we just need to reline the kitchen, paint the godawful purple and replace the cupboard doors.

Eventually.

Wow wow wow, that is absolutely beautiful. Your father is a very talented man. It is so tactile, and I imagine the children will just love to touch it because of that. I have a friend, who has not straight lines at all on the surfaces of her kitchen all curves and the surfaces are made from recycled snooker table surfaces. Very different from your real wood which I actually prefer but I just love it when people are brave enough to go away from the norm and add shape and structure into a kitchen. My kitchen was put in by the housing association and whilst I am grateful that it is functional, I preferred the original which was made of wood (although obviously not as beautiful as the piece you have in your kitchen now). Now all Nathan needs to do is finish the rest poste haste, you have waited long enough for this room to be finished. Hopefully this beautiful piece will give him the incentive he needs to complete the kitchen. Not nagging by the way Nathan (well maybe a tinsy bit) but a fellow blogger who cares so much about you and is menopausal is allowed to nag OH’s when it comes to getting on and just doing it, on the kitchen front because of this. Imagine the kitchen finished Nathan, environment in the home makes for a peaceful place to chill. So Nathan I know there are a hundred and one genuine reasons why you haven’t been able to finish the kitchen until now but now is the time to just do it. I feel it in my bones. No apologies for the menopausal nag, I have been married for 24 years to a man that never emver finishes anything and I can tell you this, most of the time it doesn’t matter if a kitchen isnt finished especially when one has young children and time is short but when the chips are down, and a tired wife is snapping just a bit, may be in pain, and is therefore naturally somewhat short of patience, an unfinished kitchen can sure build up resentment that bubbles away under the surface (even if Nathan the non finishing of it is not your fault in any way and circumstances have made its completion impossible) causing possibly an exposion of temper when you least expect it. because keeping an unfinished kitchen clean and uncluttered is nigh on impossible, So it is my bold wish (nag) today that in the installation of this wonderful piece of craftmanship the kitchen is finished poste haste. If I lived near I would send my sister a hypnotherapist over to conversationally hypnotise you into a compelling need to get it done.
I imagine when it is finished this kitchen will be a joyful family room. I can’t wait to see the photo of that.
The worktop is just beautiful Veronica I am not jealous by nature but of that I am just a tad envious, it is lovely.
Please forgive typos for some reason my cursor keeps jumping and I find myself typing in the wrong place but too tired and too much pain to correct it.
A little anxious now that my nag will annoy Nathan, or you Veronica but my heart is in the right place and I know that a finished kitchen would have a positive impact on the whole family and t hey husbands don’t read comments on blogs do they anyway…………..

That’s a beautiful slab of pine! I love the curves which just cry out to have stools placed in front of them. For sitting and chatting while the cook stirs the pots…

I love it. It has beautiful grains and textures. And you know, the purple is not bad. Where it meets the yellow, not so pretty though. It would be fabulous if your Mum could make a few pottery tiles in your fave colour for the kitchen. Your family is super talented. 🙂

That is beautiful! It changes the whole room – opens up for inspiration. The coffee maker helps set the picture 😉 Straight into the ‘would like’ – box!
