Getting there

by Veronica on October 21, 2008

in Pregnant. Finally.

I had an antenatal appointment with my midwife yesterday.

We spoke about last weekend and about the chances of premature labour.

She is satisfied that all the issues I had last weekend were caused by the infection I had and were therefore unlikely to repeat. She is happy to continue seeing me in the KYM2* scheme and doesn’t think that I need to be upgraded to the high risk clinic.

Can we get a woohoo over here?

I really really didn’t want to be seeing the doctors for the remainder of my pregnancy. I really wanted to continue seeing the midwives, if for no other reason than there is NO WAIT TIME for your appointment, as opposed to a wait time of 45mins+ in the clinics.

Phew.

I am back to measuring small for dates, which is very reminiscent of my pregnancy with Amy. We discussed it and have decided that that is probably just how my body will always be. (I measured 23cm at almost 26w4d, that makes me just about a month behind)

We know from last Monday that the little boy is healthy and happy in there, even if on the ultrasound he was measuring behind for dates. But again, very similiar to what happened with Amy. With Amy, we were told to expect a 5lb baby and she was 7lb6oz. So not stressed.

But oh my word, I cannot imagine how huge I would be feeling if I was actually measuring to dates! I know I am much bigger this time around, simply because my belly is poking out, rather than hiding back near my backbone somewhere.

Hehe.

We’re getting there.

*KYM2 = Know Your Midwife group 2. My hospital runs various forms of antenatal clinics. One of them is the KYM and KYM2 schemes, where you are seen by a group of 4-6 midwives during your pregnancy provided everything is well.

Wooooooohooooooooo! HOORAY for not being high-risk.
Seems like everyone is bigger with their 2nd. A good friend is pregnant with her 3rd, and at 6 months people think she’s about to pop.

Ugh. Looking forward to another baby. Not looking forward to feeling like a beach ball, tiny feet kicking my kidneys, peeing every 45 seconds, gas and heartburn. Its worth it though…right? Even when they have all-day tantrums, or spill your chocolate and step in it?

Wait… why do we do this again?

Hey there. Yay for you. I personally like to keep doctors right out of my pregnancies so I can relate. Very glad you’ll get to stay in the middie only scheme. I have been told before that my babies are small but they are always fine at birth (actually skipped US’s with baby #4 cos I couldn’t be bothered with all the crap). I think you are right not to worry about measurements. Ultrasounds and tape measure are notoriously unreliable when it comes to predicting baby size. I have been bigger with each of my babies. Just the joys of having no abdominal muscles left. Yay! Gosh, that was a long comment, sorry.

Woo!

I was the opposite of you when I was pregnant with Thor — I was several centimeters bigger than I was weeks pregnant. Because Thor was giant economy sized…he weighed 10 pounds 5 ounces. They offered me a C section, since they were estimating him at around 11 pounds, but I turned them down, since I am not a big fan of major surgery, and I had already had a 9.5 pound baby and figured another pound wouldn’t make that much difference. I didn’t know until well into the whole process that I come from a long line of big babies…

you can have as many woo-hoos as you like. I’m so glad to hear that everything is okay. I think the KYM groups are a great idea. Much better than having Amy waiting, waiting, waiting in a doctor’s waiting room. I grow my babies small too. I did get x-rayed with the first two a 4 1/2 months because I got much bigger very quickly, but the extra size was lots of extra amniotic fluid. My babies were very well cushioned.

Wooohoooo!!

I am so glad that things are going well. I keep thinking about you! Great news!

You are lucky, even with a 45 minute wait for a doctor .. with my sons, my doctor used to run 3-4 hours behind. I suppose I could have switched docs, but he was there through alot and he and his staff always treated me very well.

I’m going in the KYM thing too.

Happy to hear that everything is ok and the best thing is that cmparing to Amy then you don’t feel as worried because you know how your body is. Good luck!

funny how every body and every pregnancy is so different, I’ve been hearing so many different stories!
